Flying Pig Long at Yellowwood State Forest. Another clean race. Another third place. I saw Erin at number 1 as I was leaving, but then not again until number 5. After that we were close until she passed me just before number 11. Saw h for the last time leaving number 12. The splits show me losing time on numbers 1 and 4 , but I don't really feel like I made errors there, so it might just be slow pace or less then optimum route. I went straight to one. To four, I went down the stream bed, then turned in the flat to cross the stream, then uphill to the trail and then ran to the saddle and attacked from there. Maybe better to climb straight to the saddle to reduce the climb? I messed up at number 12. I was climbing the indistinct trail to attack from above, but then I went off too soon and took a while to figure out I had to go further. Lost about 1 minute.

I didn't like this course as much as the sprint. A lot of crossing catching features made the course not too technical. I didn't really see very many route choice issues. Mostly run the trails, or go straight up and down. Usually the least climb was pretty obvious.

Model event at Yellowwood. Just hiked through it slowly to get a good handle on the terrain and mapping.

Flying Pig Sprint at Indiana University Campus. Had a really nice run today. Kept up good speed, looked ahead well to plan routes without running into obstacles. Attackpoint splits says I didn't lose any time. I really liked the course. Every time you got used to the style it changed up on you. Started kind of straightforward, then hit you with some route choice legs, then when you start getting tired all of a sudden you're in a wooded area with lots of controls that you can run pretty straight to, but need to keep track of which one you're headed for. Was hoping for a better placing, but since I really didn't make any mistakes I can't complain.

WU/CD warm up/down 7:23 intensity: (24 @1) + (44 @2) + (3 @3) + (5:03 @4) + (1:09 @5) 0.58 mi (12:44 / mi) +7m 12:17 / mi

Should have done more. This didn't feel tough enough, but at least I did something.
