Orienteering (Mobile O) 49:00 [0] **

Guided Jackie Ritmire through the MoboGoGlobo course. A few wrong turns, but generally pretty good. She knew the park very thoroughly, so that helped a lot. It took me a little to get used to the scale of the map. Overshot number one and had to go back because I didn't expect her to cover the map so quickly. Nice navigational exercise.

Orienteering 58:07 [3] *

Today I participated in a local fun run at the Poppy Preserve . It was organized much like a trail-based score-O event. 13 coffee cans had been placed along the trails (one on each trail segment in the park). Each can had index cards with numbers on them 1 through 13 - all the same in any given can. The goal was to run around on the trails and try to end up with the highest point total on your index cards. I'm pretty sure I'm the only person who bothered to really use the trail map. I ended up smack in the middle of the results. All of the really fast runners got most of the cards and had higher scores than me (in the 70s). The slower runners didn't really have optimized routes and had scores in the 30s. I was the only one in between these values with a score of 57. I planned a route that covered all of the shorter trail segments and skipped the long ones. Very windy but fun.
