Sprint Final at World Masters Games. Since I made the A final and basically had nothing to lose, I decided to just run like crazy and hope that I was clean enough to still do well. Right off the bat, it was clear that this course would favor runners more than yesterday did. About half way through the course another woman in my class caught up to me and we ran together quite a bit. A few times we took different route choices, but always managed to end up close again. While I had a number of sub-optimal route choices and a few very minor baubles, my only real mistake was at near the end of the course where she and I both took off around the wrong small building and then had to correct when the control wasn't there.

Attackpoint is calling this a 17 second error. Enough to make a few places of difference. I'll always wonder if I would have made that mistake if I were running alone instead of racing her.

I finished in 29th place, which is well ahead of what I originally anticipated when I signed up for this, so pretty happy.

Big congrats to Pavlina for taking the Gold!

My first time competing in the World Masters Champs. I hoped to at least make the A final. Based on my times in test races, this seemed like a doable goal. I figured if I was clean, I would be at least a little above the cut. Well, I had a great race. The course was quite challenging, with a lot of small detail to read and a lot of barriers affecting route choice. You really had to pay attention to keep moving. Very excited to not just make the A-final, but to have placed 11th in my qualifying heat. This puts me in a position where I feel like it might be best tomorrow to just be bold. If I crash and burn, so be it, but I might as well just push hard and see what happens.
