my nav was cleaner today but the weather got me. was not really that much hotter temp-wise, but much more humid. I was soaked by the second control. Water stop at #7 wasn't there. Big bummer cuz I really needed it.

Started cramping on way to 8. Would have bailed but no place to bail to.

25 seconds ot was a bummer. How many places around the course might I have made that up.

Course today was navigationally more difficult than yesterday. FDFs were bad today.

2 courses thrown out yesterday. Brown & green-x.

Red was thrown out today. 2 controls shared by a course yesterday were picked up by accident.

Bman is bringing home some hardware. 2nd place US champs, m-12 despite a 10 minute mistake today.

An absolutely A-bizz-mal run competively, but a beautiful day in some really nice woods on the most difficult course I've ever done. Learned a lot.

10 controls. 8.5k. 1:15k, 2.5m contours.

Terrain was very complex with lots of marshes. Never been on anything like this.

Official time was 3:17:xx, so OT.

FDF's were pesky most everywhere. Mosquitos really bad in two spots.

#5 took me an hour. Made a HUGE parallel error and ended up about 500m away from the correct location. Took a very long time to reloc. Damage done ws on the order of 45 minutes.

#8 was 45 minutes. Dumb, dumb, dumb mistake. Ran past my intended attack point thinking i was still short of control, so turned the wrong way and ended up in a mosquito ridden bog. Damage done was probably 15 minutes. Realized very quickly that i'd screwed the pooch and went on a bearing back to the road to reloc.

After #5, i altered nav style to feature picking with very short distances inbetween and made substantial use of any handrail that i could find.

Rest of the course was slow but reasonably clean.

I had lots of trouble seeing the detail on the 1:15k map. had to use a magnifier which required stopping to actually focus. Bifocals and magnifiers dont mix well.

Bman took 2nd today. Hoping to make up the diff to 1st tomorrow.

Back on the same terrain again tomorrow. Now that I have an idea of how to run on it, hope to do better.
