H2 at Yetar Springs, my first bush event for the year after missing out the week before with the flu. Was too low in the creek at #3, went uphill to look for it, thought i was going too far so went down again, still couldn't find it so went back up. That's when Rachel, who had started 3 minutes behind me, arrived at the creek (at about the same place where I originally came in). We both thought the control was a bit too far up the creek, but the difference between Rachel and me was that she ran straight up the creek until she found the control, whereas I stood around scratching my head and went back and forth in a small area. Nearly three minutes lost there.
Rachel then took the track option to #4, while I bashed my way through the bush, but we arrived at almost the same time. Saw Rachel again at #5, #6 and #8, but I hardly saw her in between controls. That was fun. Most of the time I had already spotted the control before I even noticed she was also there, so I don't think we helped each other much. She took a wide left option to #9 which I wasn't expecting and it confused me. Don't know why I suddenly took notice of where she was going, because not paying attention to that had worked fine up to there, but I did and got confused and lost another three minutes. All right from there but a bit slow and careful on #11 and #12.
I had fun, but I need to move a bit faster to beat the likes of Boltboi, fletch and Rachel. I think I should start treating bush event a bit more like a race instead of just a fun jog through the bush.
