Weekend Reflections

I'm quite happy with my result this weekend. As for how I actually felt for the courses I felt like the middle went not very well, the long went super well, the sprint was a disaster, and the sprint relay was pretty good again.

After the logistic issues were solved on Friday (start procedure/course vetting) it made the rest of the weekend a much better experience.

Big Basin was a very interesting map, it was great middle terrain and for the long I think the course setting made for a very interesting long as well. The sprint and sprint relay maps were fantastic too.

Overall a nice weekend of orienteering taking home some results (and some races) that I'm happy with!

Orienteering race (Sprint) 17:38 [5] 2.9 km (6:05 / km)

US Champs 2019 Sprint

Overall pretty poor race on my part (lots of bad routes because I couldn't read the detail fast enough).

Siri and I also had an adventure on number 7 so that didn't help either.

I must say that the map was fantastic! Really complicated multilevel structures, walls and passageways was super good at keeping me on my toes.

I really enjoyed it!

Running warm up/down 5:00 [3]

Orienteering race 19:00 [5] 3.0 km (6:20 / km)

US Champs Relay

I had so much fun with this! Not as many problems with running into traps or choosing bad routes and thankfully Greg had the tougher forks so that kept him from running away early on.

Running with Jordan and Greg really worked in wiping my legs out before heading home and overall it was an awesome speedy relay through parts of the same really cool sprint area and other parts of the campus that were almost equally interesting.

Pretty sure I can count the number of controls I did well on one hand. I didn't let that get to my head, however, and ended up with a great result! despite not being happy with the race.

Easy day at the deschutes score o. Ran bits with my dad and some on my own just trying to be on point technically (which was hard since it was a low quality rogain map).

Orienteering race (Sprint) 14:28 [5] 2.9 km (4:59 / km)

Deschutes Day 4 - SPRINT TIME OH BOYO :)

Route

I do love me some good ol' sprints! This map was pretty darn cool. Too many mistakes on my part for a sprint course but my speed carried me pretty far, but not even close to Adam's much cleaner time.
2 PM

Running warm up/down 10:00 [3]

That cheesy taco bowl was not worth eating...

Orienteering race (Sprint) 15:26 [5] 2.8 km (5:31 / km)

Deschutes Day 4 - Round Two baby!

Route

This course was super easy so even I could avoid making mistakes :)

Kicked butt and beat Adam by an entire 1 second. Not letting him get me this time!

It's really cool to see how tight the competition is here and how it will be even more tight at US champs! Looking forward to it.
