Cycling 4:45:00 [2]

Cycle ride out to Woodend via Mount Macedon with Kez. Long day out circa 85ks with a big climb.

All seemed nice and steady heading out of Melbourne but then the massive headwind became apparent which we would have to battle with for the whole route.

Haven't been out on the bike for a while and I would be lying if I said it felt easy. Kez danced away from me up the climb to Mt Macedon (10k and circa 600m climb).

For all these reasons the beer tasted particularly good at the Holgate Brewhouse. Definitely glad that I did this but a case of the end was better than the journey.

A race around Melbourne Zoo. Quite fun but hard work. The route was 7.2 k and was 2 laps. Half of each lap was around the zoo and then half inside. The route inside the zoo was pretty cool with lots of ups and downs, twists and turns and animals to look at.

First lap was mostly uneventful, but the second got a bit comical as we caught up with tail runners from the first lap. The pavements inside the zoo were quite narrow and there was very little opportunity to pass people. Lots of runners were stopping to take selfies with the backdrop of some of the animals, and there was a near crash where someone stopped dead to stop and stare at a chimpanze. This put a stop to hard racing but made the end of the run a lot more fun!

Not sure exactly where I ended up (5th?) but felt that I put in a solid effort. Probably started off a bit too enthusiastically but I would probably do the same again.

Time and distance also include the (slow) run home.

Running 15:27 intensity: (35 @0) + (10:17 @1) + (20 @2) + (36 @3) + (24 @4) + (3:15 @5) 2.08 mi (7:26 / mi) +19m 7:14 / mi

Warm up run to the race from home.
