4 PM

Running 1:27:57 intensity: (57 @0) + (1:27:00 @1) 10.99 mi (8:00 / mi) +113m 7:45 / mi
ahr:122 max:140

Indulgently wallowed in a lazy morning, and motivation to go running was lacking. When I did go out I was not rewarded with fresh legs and struggled my way through it. Committed myself to run for 10 miles and managed a bit more. Still very muggy.

Note

So it has been a really strange week weather wise. Easily the hottest 4 -5 days that I have ever consistently experienced.

There are lots of parallels with extreme cold / snow in the UK; it was the main topic of conversation at work and on the news constantly, there were issues with power supply and public transport and peoples' commute to work. It also meant that you had to carefully planned your training and exercise.

I must admit that I enjoyed the novelty for the first few days but was relieved when it cooled (to a freezing 32 degrees on Friday afternoon).

Sobering though to see the fires and destruction that it can bring - with fires in the Grampians where we were staying over Christmas.
7 AM

Running warm up/down 18:44 intensity: (28 @0) + (17:50 @1) + (26 @2) 2.38 mi (7:52 / mi) +14m 7:43 / mi
ahr:122 max:142

Running 17:45 intensity: (1:13 @0) + (42 @1) + (1:08 @2) + (14:42 @3) 3.08 mi (5:46 / mi) +5m 5:44 / mi
ahr:150 max:154

Parkrun. Decided rather than go all eyes out, decided to keep to Nails pace. In the humidity this was still hard work, but felt like a solid effort.

Running 23:44 [1] 3.19 mi (7:26 / mi) +6m 7:23 / mi
ahr:103 max:103

After a little rest for barcode scanning etc, headed off for 3 x 2 minutes and a ten minute warm down. Efforts were nicely lactic inducing.

35 minutes on the treadmill and then did some squats and press-ups.

Running 32:59 intensity: (23 @0) + (32:36 @1) 3.73 mi (8:50 / mi) +60m 8:25 / mi
ahr:116 max:128

Cycled to work with the idea of going to the gym, but it was not too oppressive so headed to Royal Park. Legs felt better at the end than they did at the start.
12 PM

Running 45:04 intensity: (2:13 @0) + (41:31 @1) + (1:20 @2) 3.44 mi (13:06 / mi) +1m 13:05 / mi
ahr:122 max:144

To avoid the heat I headed to the air-conditioned gym. The treadmills are actually pretty runner friendly - lots of incline and they go as fast as I will ever need.

Just whacked the incline to a the highest setting and plodded till I had hit 45 minutes.

Running 23:39 intensity: (36 @0) + (23:03 @1) 2.75 mi (8:35 / mi) +17m 8:26 / mi
ahr:120 max:128

Run to Pilates. HR ok (phew). Legs feeling pretty good after the day off, but feeling the heat.

S+C 1:17:25 intensity: (1:14:02 @0) + (3:23 @1)
ahr:80 max:120

Pilates and then some squats and press-ups.
6 PM

Running 58:01 intensity: (1:02 @0) + (56:59 @1) 6.81 mi (8:31 / mi) +67m 8:16 / mi
ahr:116 max:135

Didn't trust myself to be sensible in the Street-O, but out of morbid curiosity / stupidity - and in the name of jantastic - I wanted to go for an easy run. The peak of the day was low 40 degrees so was probably high 30s on the run.

Saw a possum "sleeping" under a tree, and then when I saw another realised that they weren't taking a breather. The conditions had simply proved too much for some of the wildlife. Saw a few expired Bats too.

Had to stop at a toilet block to soak my vest in water to get a bit of coolness. Probably the hottest I had ever run.

Gym session; arse (mainly).

Running 37:34 intensity: (1:11 @0) + (33:45 @1) + (16 @2) + (50 @3) + (1:10 @4) + (22 @5) 4.15 mi (9:03 / mi) +27m 8:52 / mi
ahr:118 max:162

Easy morning leg loosener. Ran as slowly as possible and feeling ok. Frustrated to note at the end of the run that it looked like I had a small HR wobble. Took this as a good reminder to take it very easy this week. The race was the hardest thing that I have done in a good year and a half and need to keep smart.
