Note

Will be working out my racing plans for the Summer / Autumn in the next week after having found out on Friday that I had not made the World Long Distance Team.

A bit frustrated by the selections (Marriott, Cox, Steele and Lobb) as whilst I have no doubt they are all quality runners I have not had a chance to race against them. The decision would sit more comfortably with me if I knew that they had beaten me fair and square in a relevant race.

When you select on "all known form" then this is always going to happen but I have chased a lot of races this season for maybe no reason - although I have had a lot of fun in the process and no regrets.
10 AM

Running 30:00 [1] 3.2 mi (9:22 / mi)

Very easy jog from the hotel around the lake. Legs ok but quads understandably grumpy.

8 AM

Running 20:00 [1] 2.0 mi (10:00 / mi)

Easy morning jog from the hotel. Picked up Murray half way round who was doing some stretching - good to have a brief catch up.
1 PM

Running warm up/down 20:00 [2] 2.0 mi (10:00 / mi)

Jog warm up, walk warm down (to the river for some bathing).
2 PM

Running race 1:11:56 [5] 9.41 mi (7:39 / mi)

Snowdon race - 14th. Not a great run, I have doubts in my mind whether I pushed it all out but I certainly ticked the "this hurts and I am suffering box." Set out hard (having felt that maybe I started off too slowly last weekend) and tried to hang onto Joe Symond's coat tails for as long as possible - which lasted until we got onto the climb off the road.

Largely consolidated my position on the first 1/3 of the climb but steadily got passed on the last 2/3rds. Rallied a little just before the summit and had an ok descent but not as fast as last year. Had a bit of tussle with Carl but he proved too smooth for me and slowly broke away.

Frustrating - just not quite in form at the moment and maybe trying a little too hard as a consequence making every effort seem harder than it needs to be. However, keen to push on from this and stick in some solid and consecutive weeks training and turn a corner for Borrowdale. Character building.

Great race as ever and nice to get some personal support from my parents, Clare, Charlie and Charlie Daniel's birthday group. Orienteering got lots of positive mentions at prize giving with fantastic races from Murray and Tessa.

Running 39:00 intensity: (30:00 @2) + (9:00 @5) 5.0 mi (7:48 / mi)

Trying to work out what session on the way home from work, inspired by the footage of Seb Coe training on Riv Valley road (on the BBC doc about 1500m) I decided to do 3 x 3.00 hard with 1 min easy. Legs and lungs were burning early on but in a good way. Got into it by the third rep.

Saw a fast moving OJ on the run too.

Easy run home from work. Legs feel ok but I generally pretty tired.
