Event: Trafford 10k

9 AM

Running warm up/down 35:00 [2] 4.0 mi (8:45 / mi)

Easy warm up and down.

Running race 31:35 [5] 10.0 km (3:10 / km)

Trafford 10k - 31:35 (ish). Perfect conditions and a stella field made for a fast race. Didn't look at my watch once but felt that I was going at a decent pace and felt strong. Caught and passed ASC at about 2k and worked my way through different groups until the 8k mark until Andy overtook me (the only person to do so throughout the whole race). He pushed on and I could not go with him. The last 2k was tough but was pleased to see the time at the finish. A pb by 10 seconds and a great result after a busy and hard week.

Fantastic performances by all the Hallamshire boys - pbs all round including stand out performances from Mike and Andy - closely followed by Paul who broke 33 for the first time.

3 PM

Running 1:14:00 [2] 9.8 mi (7:33 / mi)

Run up to Dam Flask and then 2 laps with Andy and Mike. Well, one and half laps with Andy, as he had to talk his way into the sailing club to use the facilities.

Note

Attended a great talk by Charlie Spedding as part of ShAFF. Couldn't have been any more inspiring. The main take away point for me was that before you run really well you need to be able to grow a really good moustache. Hmmm - think my days are numbered.
1 PM

Orienteering 29:30 [4] 6.75 km (4:22 / km)

Long course at the ShAFF event. Great map, area and course. Really enjoyed myself and was orienteering ok (but not spectacularly). Two mistakes - the most significant going down the stairwell to 18 where I prematurely jumped over a gate (which I thought had been locked by some local kids hanging around) to get to some steps, only to see the proper ones about 30 meters up the road.

Long day all in but pleased with how the race went - all the experienced helpers made my job pretty easy.

Running 24:00 [1] 2.5 mi (9:36 / mi)

Easy warm up and down.

7 AM

Running 40:00 [1] 5.5 mi (7:16 / mi)

Run to work - nothing exciting to report.
6 PM

Running 42:00 [3] 5.5 mi (7:38 / mi)

Very slow trundle home - feeling very slow. Finished my run at newly opened fish and chip shop in Malin Bridge. I reckon that there are 9 chippies within 0.75 miles of the house.

Running 2:15:00 [3] 16.5 mi (8:11 / mi)

Booked an afternoon off work to escape to the Peaks and get a good long run in. Nice to go from being in the Arts Tower to the top for Win Hill in just under an hour.

Ran a similar route to Saturday - but extended it to Mam Tor. I took all the big climbs easy but ran hard on the flats and downhills (ie easy up Win Hill and then hard to the bottom of Lose hill) to practice by descending skills. Seemed to work ok - but maybe not as a aerobically challenging as doing it the other way around.

I tapped on 15 minutes of hard running around the reservoir at the end just to make sure the legs were spent. Good session.

8 AM

Running 41:00 [1] 5.5 mi (7:27 / mi)

Run to work - got drenched in a bit of a shower other than that it was pretty uneventful.
5 PM

Running 1:10:00 [3] 10.5 mi (6:40 / mi)

Run with Andy - out to Oughtibridge and back. Good to run at a decentish pace - certainly faster than I would have done on my own. Showed Andy a few extra paths and cut throughs. He threw in a nice twist through Middlewood estate at the end.

8 AM

Running 40:00 [2] 5.5 mi (7:16 / mi)

Run to work.
6 PM

Running 1:45:00 intensity: (1:10:00 @2) + (35:00 @5) 12.5 mi (8:24 / mi)

Run to track. Was headed to Don Valley until someone luckily stopped me and pointed out that we were at WR. Was not feeling the love tonight and legs were struggling to run at pace - glad to the grind the session out though (8 x 1k with 2 minutes recovery) - hovering around 3.05 - 3.08 for the reps based on my time behind Andy C (who smoked me on every rep).

7 AM

Running 48:00 [2] 6.4 mi (7:30 / mi)

Easy morning run with Andy up Rivelin. Good to catch up again - feels like a long time since our last outing together.
2 PM

Running 40:00 [2] 5.5 mi (7:16 / mi)

Run home from work.
6 PM

Running drills 20:00 [2] 1.0 mi (20:00 / mi)

Running drills. Tried to break into the social club but they had plugged the gap in the fence. Then ran to Myers Grove / Forge Dam and the field was fenced off / dug. Finally found a piece of land not fenced in by Loxley College to do some drills, bounds and stuff. Very unco.
