10 AM

Running warm up/down 1:00:00 [2] 7.5 mi (8:00 / mi)

A bit of an extended warm up and down. Warm up with OJ and warm down with Pete.
11 AM

Running 40:00 [5] 6.1 mi (6:33 / mi)

Stanage Struggle. First time in about 6/7 years since I have done this. Could not remember the course but knew that it was up and down! Although I tried to start off steady, I could still feel the pace quite keenly early on which was being pushed along by Danger. Was in about 5/6th at the top of Stanage and made my way to 1/3 by the trig with OJ and Danger in front. Was able to get in front just before the plantation and then just about held on till the end. Enjoyable but tough.

Note

I downloaded this podcast on Friday with Chris Carmichael (elite Ozzie triathlete who at 38 is trying to make it into the Olympic team having won Iron Man world champs in the last few years). http://competitorradio.competitor.com/2011/09/chri...

I would definitely recommend it to anyone interesting in gaining an insight into what sets the world's best apart from everyone else and elite "gamesmanship" in general.

Spends a lot of time talking about how psychologically and physically strong the Brownlee brothers are and how their reputation affects the other teams. It made me reflect a bit on Thierry's reputation - I bet 99% of world champs competitors had already given up on the prospect of winning before they started the race.

Bored OJ about this on Saturday but I think it is worth a listen.

Running 3:24:24 [2] 19.98 mi (10:14 / mi) +1065m 8:47 / mi

Long run with OJ. We talked about doing up to 3 hours but were a bit late. Basically ran a massive loop around Derwent. 1/3 terrain, 2/3 on rough paths. Pleased to be in one piece by the end (although knuckle of big toe hurting).
