Running 2:30:00 [2] 18.0 mi (8:20 / mi)

Got up to do the Exterminator, but was still feeling really tired. Started to watch the marathon from last night and decided that I would go out once this was finished. Then the athletics proper started and I got distracted.

Made it out the house at 13.00 after watching Harry barge the American out of his lane in the 4 x 100m.

Run was up to Wharncliffe via Beeley, round Greno and back again and was pretty eventful.

1) Bumped into the end of the mountain bike race for the School's champ which looked like good fun.

2) Got attacked by a dog who took a bite out of my shorts and leg - drawing blood. Got the owner's number and going to get him to buy me an expensive pair of replacement shorts.

3) Ran along some horse trials at the bottom of Greno (School's champs?)

4) Got stuck in a rain storm

5) Ran through the Oughtibridge village fete.

Very exciting - but I could hvae done without the dog attack.

Running 12:08 [0] 0.99 mi (12:12 / mi) +30m 11:09 / mi

Warm up.

Running warm up/down 8:51 [1] 0.88 mi (10:00 / mi) +68m 8:04 / mi

Orienteering 38:09 [4] 5.21 mi (7:19 / mi) +150m 6:43 / mi

Urban O in Gleadless. Physically ran ok but still had problems getting any speed from my legs and was pussy footing down the hills. Oing was so - so, a couple of route choice errors but never really got into the zone - more orienteering by numbers rather than achieving any kind of flow.

The course was good and I think that the area is world class for sprint orienteering. Pete G had obviously spent a lot of time on the map.

Running 1:08:00 intensity: (55:00 @2) + (13:00 @4) 8.5 mi (8:00 / mi)

Run down to HH but was a bit late. Missed the group heading off for farlek by about 1 minute. Guessed they were going towards Beeley so thought I would catch them up by going straight down Middlewood road and taking the bridge to Beeley. When I got to Beeley, I spoke to a guy who had just driven up the road. He said that he had not seen any runners - I assumed everyone had gone on a different route.

Set off to do 4 x 1 miles (up and down path at the bottom of Beeley). Felt sluggish on first rep - I just couldn't push myself into 5th or even 4th gear. Thought that maybe I was actually just in awesome shape and running fast easily. My 5.30 split confirmed I wasn't.....

About 1 minute into my second rep I bumped into the HH pack (they had run up some hills on Clay Wheels). Finished off the session with them.

Cycling 1:30:00 [2]

Easy spin with Candyman, OJ and Eddie. Nice to do something a bit different.

Running 55:12 [2] 6.77 mi (8:09 / mi) +144m 7:39 / mi

Easy run home with OJ good to catch up. Felt tired and flat - can't believe one late night had wiped me out so much. In retrospect maybe it was the race catching up with me..

Note
(rest day)

Legs not too sore after the race yesterday, but was happy to take a rest day. We pootled back to the airport in Geneva and then went to explore the city....well the beach on the side of the lake. Long day - with the flight home being delayed. Don't not what I made of Geneva - lots of people walking around wearing expensive suits looking like they were all closing "deals."
