Running 25:00 [2] 3.0 mi (8:20 / mi)

Warm up and down.
11 AM

Running 32:30 [5] 6.0 mi (5:25 / mi)

Spilsby 6 - part of the world famous Spilsby show. The run was undulating (well for Lincolnshire) and 2/3 on roads / pavements and 1/3 on gravel trails. Scorching hot but enjoyable all the same. Competition was not as tough as last time I did the race (about 3 years ago) so I did not have to push myself all out and managed a pb by about 30 seconds (although the course might have changed because I could not really remember it. Nice to be cheered off and home by my parents and Clare.

Did not explore the show properly but Clare managed to track down some nice cheeses - garlic cheddar yum.

Orienteering 1:16:00 [3] 8.0 mi (9:30 / mi)

Day 4. Due to flight times we could not do the chasing start today so ran the long "fitness" class instead. 7.7 k course. Generally, clean apart from a massive miss on 5 where I made a perfect parallel error.

Good 4 days of orienteering. Enjoyed hanging out with Ant and the rest of the guys (and girls) - just like old times. Even keen to do some more of this orienteering lark....

Running 25:00 [1] 3.0 mi (8:20 / mi)

Easy leg loosener with Ant. We are both getting too old for this multi day running malarky and were incredibly stiff.
10 AM

Orienteering 1:05:00 [4] 4.0 mi (16:15 / mi)

Hmm, so it turns out that running by myself was a bit harder. Missed about 5 controls really badly, but still managed to enjoy myself (ish). A couple of mistakes I could easily avoided by running with others who had caught me but I was pigheaded enough to want to do it by myself.

11 AM

Orienteering 20:00 [2] 2.0 mi (10:00 / mi)

Run out to take in the first 3 controls again. Found it a bit easier this time.

Orienteering 1:25:00 [1] 8.0 mi (10:37 / mi)

A plod fest round a bit of Finnish forest. Felt very beaten up this morning so took it very steady. Orienteering wise I did a line then a control pick and then some long legs. Pretty clean throughout but was going sooo slowly it would have been a crime to lose map contact.

Running 26:00 [3] 3.0 mi (8:40 / mi)

Easy leg loosener with Ant taking in some of the controls from the sprint race. Back was a little stiff - forgot how much stop, starting and weaving there is in Orienteering.
3 PM

Orienteering race 1:37:19 [5] 15.0 km (6:29 / km)

Mass start Euromeeting race. 3 laps of 2.5k and then 7k common final loop. Was pleased to spike the first control and so found myself in a group straight away. Pace was fast and furious for the first 2 loops and then everyone seemed to get a bit steadier - which was a relief because I was on my knees. Found myself completely alone for 1/2 of the 3rd loop so it was a relief to come back to the common control at the same time as a number of other runners.

Set off in a pack with Oleg and a few Finns. We stayed together pretty much the whole way and picked up a few runners on the way round, including Ralph and Hector on the way to the last but one control. Big sprint to the last control and on the run in but Mr Street was much too quick for me.

Good fun, but I can't claim to have navigated myself round most of it.

Orienteering 30:00 [2] 3.0 mi (10:00 / mi)

Easy run on a sprint map near the accommodation. Ran with Rich and Ant and we shared two maps between us. Legs felt loose but chest was tight and was still coughing stuff up.
3 PM

Orienteering 15:00 [5] 2.0 mi (7:30 / mi)

Sprint race. Fun race round Kuhmo . Was pretty clean throuout with a few hesitations so was pleased.
