Running warm up/down 5:00 [1]

Run to start with Duncan.

Orienteering 2:00:00 [4] 12.0 mi (10:00 / mi)

Long run. Really enjoyed it again but my navigation was again very clunky and ill disciplined. Only 2 significant "mistakes" of over 2 minutes, but I was constantly bleeding times by not exiting controls perfectly and by bouncing from feature to feature rathen than flowing smoothly. Duncan caught me 3 minutes after the long leg but we took mostly different routes - Duncan's were better. Felt very slow in the terrain but quite strong.

Felt that the 1:15000 map was ok but I would always prefer a larger scale.

Running warm up/down 20:00 [1] 2.5 mi (8:00 / mi)

Warm up before the short race. It was slightly extended as I needed to retrieve my long socks from the car park. My smooth road running shins certainly needed the protection.

1 PM

Orienteering 50:00 [4] 5.0 mi (10:00 / mi)

Middle race. Had loads of fun today but the orienteering was totally beyond me. My approach of running into the circle and looking around was not as effective a strategy as I had hoped. Gradually the orienteering juices started to flow and I got better as the course went on - even managed to spike the last 5 or so controls (with a few route choice wobbles).

Saw a few guys out on the course but took deliberately different route choices where possible as I was enjoying myself and didn't want to share the navigation.

Turns out orienteering can be fun - but I think my enjoyment would quickly turn to frustration if I continued to orienteer as poorly as I did today.

Running 1:31:00 [2] 13.0 mi (7:00 / mi)

Early doors run up to Damflask then 2 laps. All on the trails. My calves were ridculously tight / sore and it took me at least 20 minutes before they seemed to warm up.

Despite the discomfort really enjoyed myself as it was a gorgeous morning. Quite a few fishermen out - must have been a really early start for them.

Running race 32:43 [5] 10.0 km (3:16 / km)

An ex friend from work offered me a lift to the Askern 10k and I thought it would be rude not to accept. Ran it pretty steadily. Was in a group with Richard Harris and Paul Lockwood. Paul injected a bit of pace at 5k and I could not respond - it was the fastest I had run for about 2 months. A very so-so result but it was not disastrous by any means.

Once again a really well organised race with a good turn out. Was really chuffed for Rich who was aiming for sub 40 and managed to post 39.58. Nice work.

Running 30:00 [1] 3.5 mi (8:34 / mi)

Easy warm up and down.

See Tuesday. Put my foot down and ran about 30 seconds faster.
