10 AM

Running warm up/down 38:00 [2] 5.1 mi (7:27 / mi)

Warm up and down. Did a bit extra after with Hattie whilst the boys got told off for parking on someone else's property.

Running 1:12:56 [4] 13.2 mi (5:32 / mi)

Wilmslow Half Marathon Although my legs felt surprisingly sprightly (calves a bit tight though) kept myself to running this at (just slightly below) marathon pace. In the car I said I would run 73.15 so was quite pleased with my restraint to only run about 15 or so seconds faster. Although I wouldn't like to have run the whole thing again, I certainly had lots in the tank which was good considering it was a pretty windy and undulating course. Pleased. Mike ran over 2 minutes faster than last year so things are looking positive for London. Dave A ran a 2 minute pb but was painfully just outside running sub 70. He will smash this at the Sheffield Half.

9 AM

Running 16:00 [1] 2.0 mi (8:00 / mi)

Easy pre-breakfast loosener out to Hillsborough park and back.
2 PM

Running warm up/down 32:00 [2] 4.0 mi (8:00 / mi)

Warm up and down before the cross country.

Running race 34:08 [5] 10.0 km (3:25 / km)

Home international XC thingy competition. The race was held at Berryhill Park Mansfield (where the National XC relays are). The men's race only had a really small field (24 people) so it felt really weird running on a fully marked out cross country course. Was pleased with my run to finish 14th, first Northerner and within spitting distance of a few Welsh scalps. Felt strong throughout but did not have much speed. Definitely a step in the right direction. Results

Note

(Proper) Rest day. Enjoyed doing diddly squat. Thought about going to the gym to do some light spinning and stretching but made it as far as the sandwich shop.

Felt strange in the evening waving Clare (and Neil and Alex) off for a fun weekend's orienteering in Scotland. I was more than a little bit jealous....but I consoled myself by eating steak and watching District 9 instead.

8 AM

Running 22:00 [2] 3.2 mi (6:52 / mi)

Steady run to work.
6 PM

Running 34:00 [2] 5.0 mi (6:48 / mi)

Steady run home via the path behind the college to check it out - it was really muddy. Will be good when they finish it / it dries out properly.

Running drills 15:00 [2] 1.5 mi (10:00 / mi)

Run up to wood lane and then a view drills and 10 x 75m strides. It was pouring with rain, but I quite enjoyed the stupidity of it all.

8 AM

Running 24:00 [3] 3.2 mi (7:30 / mi)

Steady run to work. Meant to do a short run this morning but still struggled to leave the house on time.
12 PM

Running drills 20:00 [2] 1.5 mi (13:20 / mi)

Run to gym and back and some drills before the gym.

S+C 40:00 [2]

Gym at lunch - it was deserted. I wish it was like this all the time. I could play on the squats bar to my hearts (well legs) content.
6 PM

Running 1:16:30 intensity: (14:30 @1) + (35:00 @2) + (27:00 @3) 11.8 mi (6:29 / mi)

Run home (via the dentist) and then out again. Jogged slowly for the mile to the dentist and then picked it up again on the way home. Dropped off bag, resisted opening the london marathon program, and went out again for another 5.5 miles, 4.5 of which I ran fast / steady (6 min miling). Could feel track in my legs. Oh and my teeth were fine

8 AM

Running 16:00 [1] 2.2 mi (7:16 / mi)

Run to work. The short, I have spent much to much time faffing at home this morning, run.
6 PM

Running 52:00 [2] 7.0 mi (7:26 / mi)

Run to track and back. In the rain.

Running 29:12 [5] 4.95 mi (5:54 / mi)

Intervals at track. 6 x (600m, 100m recov, 400m, 200m recov). The idea was to do them at 5k pace and was running with Rob Little, Dave Archer and Andy Heyes. Despite running at the back we were running faster than the planned 5k pace. Did them all in 4.44 and 68 ish. Felt good and ran them controlled. Scared I am going to get ill.

12 PM

Running 24:00 [1] 3.2 mi (7:30 / mi)

Run to see Kim at lunchtime and back.
5 PM

Running 45:00 [2] 6.3 mi (7:09 / mi)

Run home. Although physically I feel quite spritely legs are tired. Which is not really a surprise. Decided to have an easy day and move doing drills till Wednesday.
6 PM

Note

So got another positive call out of the blue last night. There is a home international cross country match on Saturday. As well as the home nations there are also teams from the North, the Midlands and the South. Think I was on the (very) long list but got asked to run for the "North." This means that I won't be able to go full blast at Wilmslow on Sunday which I had been aiming for. Think I will now approach this as a marathon simulation and run on tired legs at mara pace.
