Running 20:00 [1] 2.0 mi (10:00 / mi)

Very easy run from the B&B, checking out the road section of the race. It was as steep as I remembered it.

Running warm up/down 20:00 [1] 2.0 mi (10:00 / mi)

Warm up with Pete and Lloyd. Had to nip back to the B&B as I realised that I had only brought one shoe with me.

Running race 1:10:11 [5] 9.0 mi (7:48 / mi)

Snowdon race - 7th. The race started steady (ish) and Andi Jones and Murray ran off the front. The group splintered a bit by the top of the road and the race proper started. I felt pretty good for the first 1/3 of the hill and was in 4th (Robbie had run off the front by this stage) but struggled on the second 1/3 and Lloyd, Jethro and Danny had over taken me. I just didn't feel as strong as last year on the middle section of the climb and it felt much longer and tougher. Started to recover a little on the plateau before the final ascent and managed to catch a bit of time on Graham Pearce who had sneaked past.

Not sure how I would fair on the descent but was pleased to find that I was quickly gaining time on Graham and an italian lad ahead of me. Managed to pass them about 1/3 of the way down. Ian Holmes caught me up half way down the hill (he caught me by a minute - and posted the fastest time of the day) but I was surprised to be able to keep with him. I found that it was actually useful to stay about 5 meters behind as I could follow his footsteps. I managed to sneak ahead of him just before the road (after getting a high 5 from Clare) and just put my head down. I actually managed to get 30 seconds clear of Ian on the last bit of the course which was a bit of a surprise - my legs were totally shot at the finish line. 7th overall, 11th fastest up and joint 4th down (with same time as Murray).

I would like to more pleased with the run than I was. Had really hoped to get myself fitter than last year and the slow climb showed that I wasn't in the same kind of shape. I was however really pleased with the descent and to get a couple of England team scalps. The training that Pete and I had put in had certainly helped (although unfortunately Pete was not able to capitalise). Amazing run by Murray - who is clearly on fire.
