Summerfast 10k Stanley Park. About half way through the holiday Donald slipped it into the conversation that he had found a 10k to do on the Saturday before we flew home. Full of enthusiasm we entered but we were doubting the wisdom of our decision after a 6.00am wake up call on the last day of our holiday.
Luckily the race went well for both of us. I finally managed to get under 32 minutes (31.43) and Clare was just outside her pb.
The course was great - straight around the seawall - and flat. Competition was tough too. I decided not to look at my watch but to just race it. It was certainly tough for the first half (we apparently went through 3 k in sub 9 minutes and 5k in 15.17). Around kilos 6 & 7 I managed to get a small lead which I kept to the end. It was a classic finish with tape and everything which was cool - and so was the $100 prize money. Good stuff.
