Running 30:42 [1] 3.8 mi (8:05 / mi)

Went for a nice pre-breakie run with Mike. Jogged up to Hyde Park and then did a few strides before turning round and heading back to the hotel. Nice morning and lots of people out enjoying the early morning sunshine. Generally felt quite loose apart from my left hamstring which felt tight (although it wasn’t when I stretched it out).

The rest of the day revolved around killing time before the next meal. Sauntered into Coent Grden to meet the girls - who were putting a brave face on the fact that they had to spend the whole day shopping - for a pasta lunch and then picked up some sandwiches and pasta salad for dinner at the hotel. Followed this up with some muesli at about 11 pm and then fell asleep.

In the afternoon I wrote down some notes about my training over the last 12 weeks or so. In the 10 weeks preceding my taper I had: run 930 miles; missed only two days of planned training (due to tight calves); done 11 hours of drills; and spent just over 10 hours in the gym doing S+C work. I was also the lightest I had been since Christmas (66.7 kg on Wednesday morning). I reasoned that all these factors should add up to a good performance but I knew the marathon could be a cruel mistress and I was not taken anything for granted.
