Running race 1:10:47 [5] 13.1 mi (5:24 / mi)
ahr:159

Bristol Half Marathon. 1:10:47 (PB).

Was really oooming and ahhing about running. My legs had tightened up about 3 hours after yesterday's run and my hamstring was still a bit sore. Clare kept her opinions completely neutral, so there was no way should could receive blame in the aftermath of whatever happened. I figured in the end, that having done loads of stretching in the proceeding 3 days that biomechanically I should not be doing it too much damage.

Felt really good at the start and had to force myself to throttle back in the first 3 miles trying to stick to 5:20 pace. From about mile 4 onwards I was aware of a slow creeping tightness going from my glutes to my hamstrings and to my hip flexors but it wasn't painful. Got to halfway in 35:13 and so ran the second half slightly slower (35:34) but was overall satisfied. Finished 14th which wasn't too bad out of the 10,000 or so finishers.

Felt strong at the finish and certainly had some energy left. I was satisfied with the time, and feel I could run a bit faster. At least it was a pb. Clare ran amazing well to break 1:45 and her pb by about 7 minutes! - nice work.

Went for a sports massage afterwards. The guy was quite friendly, but kept tutting and sucking air through his teeth when he got to different "trouble spots". I asked him how bad shape my legs were in and he said that if I was a car I would not pass my MOT! Still time to sort these niggles out in advance of Chicago.

Running warm up/down 25:00 [2] 3.0 mi (8:20 / mi)

Running 16:00 [2] 2.0 mi (8:00 / mi)

Easy run from home once we got back. Legs felt ok, hamstring soreness was isolated to one lump in middle of right leg.
