1 PM

run warm up/down 8:00 [3] 1.4 km (5:43 / km)
shoes: x-talon 190

Token WU after getting 4 school kids going on their first real orienteering course. First time I've had school kds make it to an event since I was teaching at Ellenbrook in 2002, and the first time ever they've gone without me driving them out. Happy days.

Really needed another 10 minutes or so, to get my head in the game if nothing else.
2 PM

run race (Navdash JNFP) 17:56 [5] *** 3.0 km (5:59 / km) +100m 5:07 / km
spiked:15/17c shoes: x-talon 190

Remembered to clear my watch before I started, but then forgot to start it, so I can gloss over my mistakes and noone will ever know...
Looking at the map running to the start triangle I wondered how similar the short course was, as it looked pretty hard navigation and pretty physical for a sprint. With first timer students and the wife and kids out, I wondered how popular I would be.
Clean to 1, hesitant into 2, then went off line uphill to 3 to go around a group of about 5 others and never corrected, so lost a bit of time there. Started trying to go straightish to 4, but the bush was too crap, so bombed out to the track. Pretty smooth run for most of the rest. Probably lost a bit of time mid-leg on the long leg 10-11 or 9-10, I forget by losing track of where I was and also a little suboptimal into 17 and 18, but hit all the controls cleanly.
Never felt good physically. Might have been the lack of warmup. Might have been something else. Had matching single small welts on each cheek after the run, so maybe the late milky breakfast was cutting things a little fine.

Having (literally) run into one of my students about halfway around, I walked back out to find them after I finished, and found them with only 1 control to go, so they all made it around. Not fast, but a pretty good effort for a first ever event off their own school campus. Schools team look out!

Made sure I was going to recover well by not eating or rehydrating or cooling down afterwards.

run warm up/down 19:22 [2] 4.13 km (4:41 / km) +2m 4:40 / km

run (Trigg Lightpole training) 41:26 [3] 8.17 km (5:04 / km) +91m 4:48 / km

Got the quality done yesterday, so just a steady jog today. Still got to 16 of them, but it would have been pretty hard to get more than a couple extra, even going hard.

run intervals 1:11:10 intensity: (4:44 @1) + (6:46 @2) + (23:00 @3) + (36:25 @4) + (15 @5) 16.41 km (4:20 / km) +30m 4:18 / km

Cruise down to Ridgewood oval as WU
15T:3 jog recovery x 2
10T

Jog back to school.

Legs felt a bit heavy roday and I was just outside target pace pretty much the whole run. Probably tried too hard to hit the target pace (3:40's) rather than letting how I felt dictate the pace as my knackered state at the end would suggest I was working a little too hard. Will be interesting to get HR data out of this one when the computer finally lets me download again. Pity I didn't wear the HR strap two weeks ago for a coparison, where I was running very marginally faster but felt much better.

run (Lightpole mapping) 1:24:52 intensity: (17:27 @1) + (54:10 @2) + (12:36 @3) + (39 @4) 12.14 km (7:00 / km) +175m 6:31 / km
ahr:125 max:164 shoes: Saucony Cortana

Managed to get stuck into the Carine map this afternoon. Probably a good time to be doing this, because
a) I'll be pushing poo uphill to get all the maps done in time for the series I'm running
b) I had no motivation for actual training

Note

Knew it was going to be hard to fit in a run yesterday, and wasn't that upset to have a rest day, but had been banking on getting out today. Pretty grumpy that it didn't work out. By the time I could squeeze it in (after dinner) I had no energy so the dreaded double rest happens again.

Hope I actually get my quality session done midweek this week...
