Note

Coming to the realisation that starting work at 7, then looking after the kiddies till they're in bed and sound asleep doesn't provide the ultimate inspiring preparation for an evening windtrainer interval session. Probably too sick to do anything worthwhile anyway...

run (uninspired veggie jog) 1:08:32 [2] 13.0 km (5:16 / km)
shoes: Nike Equalon 2

Early morning. Think I'm getting sick with what's kept Pen out of action for a few days. Hip sore, hip flexor niggly after 50 min, knee occasional dull ache. Couldn't be bothered, but not as bad as I was expecting.

paddle (ocean) 55:00 [3]
shoes: Spirit PRS plastic

Looking at the waves, I was half expecting this paddle to end in tragedy like my last effort at an ocean paddle, but after missing the proper gap between sets, I picked a shorter break and just made it over the top of a couple of waves before I got smashed. tRicky then joined us and timed it/fluked it perfectly.
Generally felt pretty comfortable paddling out to sea level with the city beach groyne and picked p hte odd run on the return journey. took a swim when I got a bit careless abot half way through, bt it wasn't overly windy so I never got cold.
Only other swim was a particularly insccessful attempt to follow a wave in to shore at the end. Few more practice rus and I may be approaching competence.

paddle (Long(ish)) 1:58:00 [2]
shoes: Spirit PRS plastic

Didn't want to go, but knew I had to paddle. Decided to go from Banks down to Tonkin Bridge and return. Took it really easy on the way out, tried to keep reasonable technique but very slow stroke rate. Turned in about 62 minutes and almost had a heart attack when I realised I was going about the same pace as I used to in the Endorfinn. Back was pretty sore, but must have changed the way I was sitting when I turned around, because it improved markedly. Didn't stop and stretch as I had planned due to the interesting sounding characters huddling around a fire on my usualy landing beach under the bridge. Picked it up a little on the way back, but it didn't make much difference. Despite the lacklustre effort, my back/arms etc were still pretty tired by the end.
The water was glassy, but seemed really dirty. Lots of sticks, oily foam and litter thru it. Bogan week on the river last week? Had a bit of a reedy thing wrapped around my rudder when I finished. Will have to se that as an excse for my patheticness.

Windtrainer 1:01:00 [4]
shoes: Avanti Blade

1-2-3-4-5-6-5-4-3-2-1 pyramid with 1 minute recoveries. Pretty hard work, especially in the middle. Would love to have some sort of gizmo to see how much I slack off and drop the intensity (power output I guess) to survive the longer middle reps.

run (beach run) 1:02:59 [2]
shoes: barefoot

Pretty easy paced effort on the usual beach run. Very cold. Numb feet. Really should do something about the little hip flexor niggle. So far have done nothing about it and it hasn't miraculously improved, so a different approach may be in order. Knee has been a bit sore for the last few days due to teaching lots of high jump last week, but didn't notice it on the sand.

Windtrainer 1:00:00 [3]
shoes: Avanti Blade

Steady windtrainer in front of the telly. Legs felt really crap for the first 5 mniutes, but OK after that. Not really a substitute for an intervals session, but marginally better than nothing.
