Orienteering race (rogaine) 5:57:18 [4]
shoes: BrooksCascadia 5

Went counter-clockwise

2-4-5-8-24-21-27-31-18-7-30-321-22-20-121-19-29-23-26-28-16-25-15-17-14-13-3-1

Last year had a bad experience finding a control near 10, so intentionally skipped that area.

BIG mistake on the final approach 24-->21. Once on trail running north to south, somehow made a mental mistake of looking for the other trail off that main trail and ended up just west of 9. Realized what I've done and backtracked a way to get to 21. The correlated additional mistake is that i intended to skip 9, but at that point, being that close, could have punched that in, which I didn't.

Second mistake on approach to 18. Was following another participant. We both ended up somewhat puzzled and after a bit of research, we realized we were following the wrong stream.

Third mistake on approach to 32. Looked like a piece of cake. I mean, a SADDLE. How hard is that... Well, looks like I over passed it, ended outside state forest boundary and possibly even outside of the map. Backtracked to 30 and started all over.

Punched 14 with 32 minutes of spare time. And from that moment on, it was a matter of gaining the hilltop and from there, all downhill

Pretty happy with myself, despite the ridiculous mistakes

UPDATE:

Here is my route

For control 32, I was right on target on my first attempt !!! Apparently I lost confidence and abandoned my search when I was extremely close. OMG !! This is is so embarrassing ...

here is where the flag was positioned for control 26
