Happy Mothers Day!
Billygoat at Bow, NH
preparation for the race was to do nothing for two days. that seems to leave me in a mood for running hard. it worked.
ran well with the pack while reading ahead in search of a good skip. by 3 the crowd started to thin out and on the way to 4 it thinned some more with the multiple route options. met greg at 4 and ran with him and andy hall to 5, greg missed left. andy and I ran together up to 8 (after skipping 7) where greg caught up to us. stayed with andy up to 12 where ross and 'the swede' passed us. on the way to 9 we stopped to look for water, but apparently it was placed at the wrong intersection and this was not corrected till after we passed. I guess the eventual winners were not thru here yet as they did not skip a control and the water situation was fixed by then.
so after 12 on the long leg I started to push the pace since it did not look like much distance to the finish. took the straight route and caught wyatt at 13. ran with him to 14 and then he passed me on the way to 15 by taking the road. nailed 15-19 and saw wyatt leaving. on the way to 20 I studied the map for the best route to 21. decided to go straight as possible just south of the house and down the cleared forest. this was quite fast and gave me an easy AP to the control. not a soul in sight so was careful on the way to 22. maybe too careful and blew the last 20m to the control. luckily no noise from the bushes and I was still alone for 6th place finish. nice race on a fast course. on the short side for a BG, but suits me fine.
I guess you could say I got a few scalps today...
