arrived late, but not too late.

not sure what to expect today, however I was positive of one thing and that was I was going to have fun...and I did.

started slow and kept the pace easy until I had an idea of how my body was responding. it responded well even in the heat and on the climbs so I pushed the pace a little and made some good route choices. passed by many on the way to one, but not worried as I would pass every one of them before the finish. great route to 2 and 3. pulled up to PG at 4 and discussed skips. he said 7, but then I knew he was just setting me up. he would never skip such an easy control. left cp 6 (JB) and never saw him again. caught a bunch at cp8 and tailed them for a bit, passed a few while some others pulled away. nice route through the cliffs to 11 and then on the way to 12 I had to climb the tower just because you know - it was there. lost ethan at 13 and found alexei (lost) just beyond it. skipped 15. picked 15 because more than anything the climbs just sucked the energy (fluid) out of me. and the trail along the cliffs is just a really nice run. bobbled 15 at the end and then I saw Alex. we finally found the trail we were looking for that put us on the ski slope. saw greg and vadim b/t 16/17. thought that was odd and maybe they did not skip, but apparently they were just slow today. followed Alex down the trail to 19 when I saw the shorter route through the woods was really steep. tripped trying to catch up and fell good on my hip. bounced up and ran 30 meters only to realize my mag. glasses were not on my head. ran up and then down the hill again to 19 and caught up to Alex. She then ran off the line and I never saw her again. Caught Tim and Ben at 20 and raced with them until 22 and forked left to the finish.

I really enjoyed the course. This is how Billygoats should be - with lots of climb! Thanks Phil.
