US Masters, day 1 at Mille Lacs Kathio, MN

I was nervous at the start, because I wanted to have a clean run and this was a technical area. I was happy to see an easy first leg, which helped me get settled. I moved pretty quickly through the woods, too, for the first few controls. I also talked to myself through the whole race; it was a good thing (for them) that I wasn't near a lot of other folks!

A bit of hesitation on the way to 4, when I stopped a bit too soon. A mistake on the way to 7, when I got off the line and came to the wrong side of the big marsh. But I actually stopped right away and figured it out. Yay for me for doing this finally!

Around 45 minutes, I found my mind wandering, so I stopped and ate a handful of gorp. Around 60 minutes, my legs were tired and I started tripping over every little thing. But I talked to myself and said "just keep going". I was happy to reach the trail to the finish, but saw that the run in was too long to sprint. Maybe tomorrow.

Lots of fun talking with everyone at the finish. And Linear Ice showed up!
