run/walk warm up/down 20:00 [2]

orienteer race 1:09:05 [4] *** 5.6 km (12:20 / km)

Day one at Tucson, my first foray into the scary world of F45. There were 7 women in the class, which is great competition.

My number one goal today was not to have a "bad" day. I have quite a streak of "bad day one, better day two" at A meets. I was determined to break that streak.

And I did. Sure, I was slow (walked up hills, jogged flats and down). Sure, I made mistakes. But the mistakes were on the order of one to two minutes. And I never wandered around aimlessly. Yeah ! Finished last in the class, but only minutes behind second through sixth. And I was in the middle of the pack of green course times. Last year, I would have been in the bottom third, and 20+ minutes behind the other F45s.

Consistency:11.1
Time lost: 4.0%

I'm pleased with my progress.

Followed by a fine dinner with Mook, Mike, Mikell and Kris. Only low point to the day was that Mike's cold was worse :(

walk 45:00 [1]

Back to contol 9, in a futile attempt to find my lost magnifier. Slow walk, but I was tired from my course, and it was draining to be out in the sun the whole time, so I'm counting it towards my training.

Note

A nice day exploring Tucson with Mike and Mook. The desert museum was great. Enjoyed seeing the mission and strolling down 4th Ave as well.

run/walk (warm up) 20:00 [2]

orienteer race 1:28:15 [4] *** 6.7 km (13:10 / km)

Day two at Texas. Sixty degrees and not a cloud in the sky: woo hoo!

I was determined not to wander today, and I didn't. It helped that I was tired (legs had no umph at all) so I had time to read the map as I slowly moved through the woods.

Not a perfect run, but better than yesterday. Mistake on 1, bobbles on 12 and 15. Lost time on 14, most through lack of confidence. Thought I was in the correct reentrant, but hesitated. Pulled by other runners moving to next reentrant, and I stupidly followed. But once I figured out that I didn't know where I was, I immediately bailed out to the trail to the north. Went to the trail junction, and attacked the control correctly. I still lost more time that I wanted, but I least I didn't wander.

Very tired at the end, sloppy route execution. But at least I read the control codes, and did not punch the first "top of cliff" control I found.

Slow and sloppy worked today (first of three) to give me second place in F45 for the weekend. Still beaten by the youngsters and men.

Another great course using the best possible woods. This section had more thick stuff, but you could plan to avoid most of it. There was also a section of beautiful, smooth, wide open pine forest.

Overall, NTOA put on a fun, quality meet. A lot of people will be sorry they missed this one.

Note: just barely met my goals for consistency (19.4) and time lost (14)
