Orienteering 1 [3]
OK, I didn't really orienteer for 20 hours today but I wanted to get your attention so I am briefly claiming this amount of time...
Anna from Latvia, who works for SportIdent, was visiting us last week. In high school she went out for the Latvian junior team. She said it was very competitive; they only accepted 3 people and she was the 4th, which was very disappointing. But why I'm writing: I asked her how she trained.
She said she was assigned a coach by the Latvian national orienteering organization, and that all promising young orienteers were assigned a personal coach. What a great idea, don't you think? Her coach designed a training plan for her.
She said her mom was her coach before that, and that having a real coach was better. (Though maybe not quite good enough in the end.)
Most of her training was physical. She said she didn't need as much navigation training as some of the others, because she'd been orienteering her whole life.
