Found out about the new OUSA website on Facebook. (!) And I love it. I'll just put that out there right now before I read any AP posts trashing it. I love it. I like the little blue birdie. I had no idea there was an O in Schools newsletter. The videos on the front page - so useful for me. Can't wait for the find-a-local-event-by-zipcode thing. And the national database of club members.

I went in to Graham & Parks today to pick up a very fine card (map of the British and French Dominions in North America, 1755, John Mitchell, cartographer) and gift the staff gave me for the orienteering: a gift certificate for dinner at a restaurant.
Laura, the science teacher, gave me the news that she looked up the Graham & Parks score on the MCAS science exam for this past spring. There was a question on contour maps. Our students scored 90%, and the 10% that picked the wrong answer all picked the same wrong answer (D), which was the best wrong answer. This is a notable result because generally our students score pretty low in earth science. On that question, 75% of Cambridge kids and 72% of Massachusetts kids got the right answer. Mind you, us Cantabridgians are supposed to be all anti-standardized-testing, but I'm pretty psyched about this nonetheless!
