Orienteering (Field Checking) 3:50:00 [1] 5.0 mi (46:00 / mi)
slept:7.75 weight:179.5lbs

Cabin John Regional Park, MD. I finished field checking the part of the park north of Tuckerman Rd. I spent a lot of time going over ground that I'd already field checked so that I could verify and refine those areas. The best of the new ground covered was at the end. With it being white woods, it went fast. My energy level during all of this outing was rather lowish. The leaves have reached their full growth for this spring and that made it harder to check areas. It also made it harder to be consistent with the interpretation for the rest of the area.

Bicycling (Commute) 43:21 [3] 12.41 mi (3:30 / mi)
slept:6.0 weight:178.5lbs

From Northfield Rd., Bethesda, MD, to Arlington Ave. with Max on his trail-a-bike, then to 12th & C St. SW, Washington, D.C. It was cool this morning; around 49F starting out. There was a lot of stop and start traffic in Bethesda. On the trail, I moved well. There were some moderate headwinds along the water.

Running (Street & Trail Commute) 1:12:30 [3] 8.44 mi (8:35 / mi)

From the Van Ness/UDC Metro Station in Washington, D.C. down Connecticutt Ave. to the Melvin-Hazen Trail, to the Rock Creek Trail to Broad Branch Rd., trails on the west side of the valley to Military Rd., then up the paved trail to the Western Ridge Trail, to Wise Rd. to Chestnut Rd. to Winnett Rd. to Brennon Ln. to to Thornapple St. to Brookville Rd. to Underwood St. to Meadow Ln. to Thornapple St., to Leeland St. to 45th St. to Elm St. to the Capital Crescent Trail, to Woodmont Ave. to North Ln. and to the Bethesda Metro Station in Maryland. It was a beautiful day for running--60F and sunny. There were plenty of other runners enjoying the dirt trails in Rock Creek Park, at least until I got to the Western Ridge Trail. After then, I didn't see many others. I was rather slow going uphills. Once out of Rock Creek Park, it felt like I was running much faster but I did feel slow overall.

weight:181.5lbs (sick)

I took the day off. It had been rainy early and cool all day. My energy level was still not so good, probably from being a little sick. I wanted to get a long run in.

Bicycling (Commute) 10:40 [3] 2.22 mi (4:48 / mi)
(sick)

From Northfield Rd. to Arlington Ave. and back. I had stayed home all day having congestion and not getting a good sleep the night before. I wondered if I really should have gone to work. Since Peggy was delayed and I was feeling better by the evening, I went to get Max before his after school care closed. At this hour it's much quicker to get there by bicycle. My doubts about whether it was best to stay at home were dispelled on the ride as I coughed-up more phlegm and rode tiredly with the trail-a-bike.

Bicycling (Commute) 8:20 [3] 1.52 mi (5:29 / mi)
slept:6.0 weight:179.5lbs (rest day)

From Northfield Rd. to the Bethesda Metro Station with Max on his trail-a-bike. I was tempted to ride all the way in but once I actually got on my bike and headed to the metro station, my legs felt tired enough that I was glad I chose a shorter ride. I also probably ate too much after the race yesterday. Max did seem to pull his own weight pretty well while riding.
5 PM

Bicycling (Commute) 7:30 [3] 1.48 mi (5:04 / mi)

From the Bethesda Metro Station with Max's trail-a-bike, to Northfield Rd. I was trying to keep from sweating in my work clothes.

Orienteering race (Foot) 1:38:26 [4] *** 8.8 km (11:11 / km) +300m 9:33 / km
ahr:147 max:159 spiked:13/18c slept:7.0

West Point, NY. I felt much better today after a decent sleep. With a Long course that required less precise map reading along the way than the Middle and Sprint yesterday, and terrain that was a lot easier to run through, I did much better. I doubt that my routes were optimal on the long legs but going straight over the tops did at least keep me on course mostly. I bobbled controls 4, 7, 12, 14, and 15 but pretty much hit all the others. I spiked #16 where AP shows I lost +2 minutes but I probably was just too slow climbing to it on the steep and blueberry covered ride. With the exception of #15, everytime I missed, I corrected straight to the control. Like yesterday, I finished with a tick on me that was starting to attach.
