Running (Warm-up) 5:00 [2] 0.4 mi (12:30 / mi)
slept:8.0

On the Pineland Farms Collyer Brook Property map for the OME A-meet.

Orienteering (Competition) 1:13:03 [4] 6.21 km (11:46 / km) +210m 10:04 / km
spiked:10/16c

OME A-Meet on the Pincland Farms, Collyer Brook Property map. I ran Red and had trouble with the thick forest; many small errors but none big. A contributing factor on many controls I missed or took bad routes to was that I didn't realize the contour interval was only 3m instead of 5m. I got on track toward the end of the course. See the Split List.

Running (Warm-up) 5:00 [2] 0.5 mi (10:00 / mi)
slept:1.0

Warm-up for the US Night Orienteering Championships at Pineland Farms.

Orienteering (Competition) 49:58 [4] 4.82 km (10:22 / km) +135m 9:06 / km
spiked:10/11c

US Night Orienteering Championships at Pineland Farms. The courses were much easier than I had anticipated with most controls in open areas or right next to them. I felt good in the cool but humid evening. Going out of #6 I must have had a dislexic moment. I kept reading the compass and thought I was on track but the terrain didn't match-up. I ran off the map and hit the river before wandering back for about a 7-8 minute error. The rest, I was almost completely error free which placed me at 3rd in M40+. See the Split List.

Running (Street & Trail) 1:03:11 [4] 9.5 mi (6:39 / mi)
slept:6.0

In Overland Park, KS: From Mastin St. & College Blvd. to the Indian Creek Trail, to Pflumm Rd. and back. After a long busy week of work and eating the wrong things too much, I felt the need for a better workout. It was not as cool as two weeks ago but I ran in the daylight this time. There were two sets of mile markers and I used the IC ones. They were off in places and correct elsewhere. Available half and mile splits: 3:26, 3:07, 6:40, 3:19, 3:03, 31:34 halfway, 3:12, 3:20, 6:32, 3:29. My right foot hurt some throughout the run (more like a bruised heel today) but not as much as yesterday.

Weights (General) 1:00 [3]
slept:5.0

30 pushups. Dinner after work with collegues made me lazy. My right foot was mysteriously hurting all day again too; just like last Saturday.

Running (Street & Trail) 16:55 [4] 2.65 mi (6:23 / mi)
slept:6.0

In Overland Park, KS. From College St. east on the Indian Creek Trail to the Rte. 435 underpass and back. Running on a steak dinner required me to wait a bit late. That however gave me a chance to test out and refine my new night lighting equipment for the meet in Maine. One timed half mile split was 3:10.

Weights (General) 1:00 [3]

30 pushups.

Orienteering (Course Setting) 41:18 [3] 2.5 km (16:31 / km)
slept:7.0

In Shawnee Mission Park, KS. Setting a Farsta training course for the OKers who have done this many time for me. We kept to open areas except for trails. However even in a grassy area, I picked up a covering of hitchhicker seeds such that my blue o-pants looked geen. It was fun!

Orienteering (Control Pickup) 19:10 [3] 1.75 km (10:57 / km)

In Shawnee Mission Park, KS. Control pickup for the Farsta training.

Running (Warm-up) 10:02 [3] 1.2 mi (8:22 / mi)

From Hemlock Overlook Regional Park in Fairfax County, VA, I warmed-up on the side of roads in and near the park. My right foot started out smarting me like yesterday but somewhere along the way it loosened-up and I felt no more pain. I did some fartlek coming back. Weight 169--eating too much lately.

Orienteering (Competition) 1:17:32 [4] 8.5 km (9:07 / km) +280m 7:50 / km
slept:7.0

QOC: Hemlock Overlook Regional Park: Blue. I took off 4 minutes after Dave Pruden and 3 in front of Ted Good. Sloppy overruning #1, a poor route choice to #2 (saw Heidi O.) and again overruning #3, Ted was on my heels (running in tennis shoes) at #5. I lost him at #6 and caught Dave Pruden after #10. A good route choice (ridge/trail far to the right to and past the start area) on the long leg back to #12 made-up for some earlier blunders. I stopped to help a desparate novice locate on his map on the way to #13. I went to the clearing on #14, passing Heidi along the way and relocating at the fenced-in enclosure and ruin before cutting-in between the dark green. On #15, I came out to the road but cut back in too early; the contours in this area didn't appear correct so I spent more time figuring out that I should keep going on toward the catching road before it made sense. On #16, I went to the right down the road and in at the reentrant. I was hesitant crossing the fence, then the power lines. I couldn't make out a clearing but eventually went on enough to get to the spur it used to be on. Past the registration to the finish. I think I got third as Jon Torrance and Marek Filicko (by ten seconds) beat me. See the Split List.
