Orienteering race 17:01 [4] *** 2.22 km (7:40 / km) +51m 6:53 / km
spiked:11/15c shoes: VJ Falcons #1

Sprint Finals at Cranbury Park (CT), Sprint A. I'm using a very strict definition of a spike here, the total time lost on the various tiny errors probably amounts to something n the order of a minute.

Orienteering race 14:49 [4] *** 2.33 km (6:22 / km) +52m 5:43 / km
spiked:12/13c shoes: VJ Falcons #1

Sprint B. Cleaner, my only real error was stopping inside the circle at #11, momentarily confused as to where I could be, with the control just off my right shoulder — pretty minor.

Orienteering race 17:39 [4] *** 3.15 km (5:36 / km) +33m 5:19 / km
spiked:20/21c shoes: VJ Falcons #1

"All comers" mass-start Sprint C. Leading a pack early on, then I was in hot pursuit of some pretty fast guys on the final loop. It finally came down to my closing a gap on Spike over the last few controls. I caught him at the last one, and then it was an all-out dash to the finish line, which I think he won by a step or two.

Hang gliding! (Morningside) 8 [1]
shoes: Wal*Mart Carson

Sled rides.

Running in terrain 12:54 [4] 1.16 km (11:07 / km) +137m 7:00 / km
shoes: Wal*Mart Carson

Morningside 450x1, but instead of taking the road, this time I did it straight, up to the 150 then through the woods. On the way back down I took an overgrown trail that I spotted on the way up. Probably doesn't make much difference which way I go up, the time is likely the same because it's dominated by the climb, but I think for descending, the trail is probably the fastest route.

Unicycling 25:22 [2] 2.37 mi (10:42 / mi)

To Town Hall for meeting and back, In The Dim on the way there, and In The Dark on the way back (hatlamp plus led blinky taillight). I was carrying an empty tupperware container on the way there (returning it after having eaten the cookies), and that wasn't a problem in terms of balance.

On entering the garage to do the pull-ups, I came across the most unambiguous sign that I have mice: I saw a mouse. It was scampering along the base of the wall, then got to the corner and scooted vertically right up to the roof, with a couple of pauses. Pretty impressive. Now, it's not too surprising to see a mouse in the garage, which is porous enough that there's no realistic chance of keeping them out, short of ridding the neighborhood of them. And a mouse in the garage is not quite a mouse in the house. Nevertheless, I rounded up the old mousetrap that I remembered seeing out there and set it. In the morning it had been sprung, but had failed to catch Mr. Mousey. So I reset it, and we'll give it another try, hoping the intended victim hasn't developed an aversion.

Note

Absolutely beautiful day. Didn't get out for any exercise, though. Partly because my motivation was flagging because I can't breathe due to all the wagreed pollen. But Nancy and I took my parents out to dinner tonight to celebrate my mother's 80th birthday, which was a fine time indeed.
