Orienteering race 1:41:14 [3] **** 7.84 km (12:55 / km)

Blue course, Pawtuckaway. Not too bad a run, especially considering it was raining moderately hard, which in the old days would have meant disaster for me. At two controls in complex areas I managed to get to the circle, but then spent a couple of minutes figuring out what feature was what, and on one in a bland area I missed but hit the backstop trail and turned right around to get it. Other than that it was pretty clean, maybe a little wobbling on long legs where I was just flying on compass, but I don't think that hurt me too much. Probably lost more time by hitting places that were greener than mapped due to young hemlock growth. But I was running pretty strongly the whole way.
I didn't see the results at the end, but this may have been a situation similar to the one several years ago when Evan Rauch came in dead last and still won the NEOC club champs, because he was the only NEOC member under the age of 35. This race was the UNO club champs, and I think only two UNO members ran Blue. The other was Erin Nielsen, who beat me by about 10 minutes. I don't know what this will mean in terms of the title(s). Erin could win F21 and I could win M21. But F21 should really be on Red, so if some other UNO woman ran Red, then she should win that award. In which case maybe Erin will win M21. So there remains a chance that I will be champion, but I didn't exactly beat many people wih this run (it wasn't too bad for an old guy).

Picking up four controls (the first three and the last one) from the Night-O.
Note
Too tired to do any -ups. Also, didn't have enough time in my schedule to do the canoe-O this weekend, the first time in quite a few years that I haven't done that at Camping Weekend, I think. But it sounds like the event played out with some interesting drama that would have been different if I had participated, so maybe it's just as well. Among other things, it appears that Vanessa Wood and Keith Durand are shaping up to be an impressive canoe-O team. And the Miller brothers finally got to win one, although the Undefated Boat retains its unblemished title, because it stayed on the trailer all weekend.
