orienteering race (classic) 1:15:32 [4] ***
16c

~Screwed the pooch on 12 - literally never been one to do the long run-around route but today I decided to. See I know my strength isn't running, so why did I think I'd gain time by doing that? Also managed to waste time when coming out onto the road, so that knocked out any chance of having a fast time for that leg. From there to the finish, though, I was moving smooth.
~At 8 I was not looking close enough at the circle and didn't realize what I was looking for.
~Not satisfied with how I cut from the road to the river going to c2. Think that from the road, I should have cut through that weird overgrown garden loop thing and followed the stream its south and east so that I could have moved quicker through the forest, because I was certainly taking a meandering scenic route
~c11 I threw myself out of 10 with no good plan. Stop doing that. Should have left intentionally in line with the path, then noted the shape of the subtle spurs and reentrants of the area that the control sat in, and if trail was caught, then used that in combination with the topography to locate the gullies that were right next to the control

orienteering race (classic) 1:14:05 [4] ***
20c

~Same ankle situation as yesterday except the aggressive swearing occurred at 10 - ran it off in similar fashion, didn't have impact on race.
~Was much too eager to dive into the forest for 1, and what's frustrating on 2 was that I literally walked over to start down the correct spur but was like "Nah, I'm right, it's this one" and proceeded down the wrong one. Walk of shame followed shortly after once I recognized the lack of control and how the terrain I was on matched perfectly with the incorrect spur. Course designer has succeeded in driving a poor child to make a stupid parallel error.
~What I should have done: flowed up following north side of the gully that 17 is on, aiming to hit the n/s gully outlining the west side of the c2 spur.
~going to c13 failed at using my compass and also ended up getting wayyy to eager and made a 1min control into like a 3min control
Rest was clean and fab.

orienteering 1:00:00 [2]

model course exploration, went with one of the younger competitors from my school to help him and also force me to slow down and go step-by-step with my processes. Discovered how big everything was and tried to get a strong grasp on how the scale felt.

orienteering race (middle) 56:19 [3] ***

Ya girl doesn't have a garmin yet so distance unknown.
Dropped my ankle painfully at control 1 but it's nationals so I ran it off in the next 30 seconds (talked to my PT and we figured out it was one of the tissues of lesser importance for stabilizing so that's why I was able to keep running).
I'm very curious as to how I managed to fail at using my compass on a multitude of occasions. It certainly got screwed with by metal at some point, but also I failed to correct that through my own observation of the landscape, so I'm taking all the blame. I did succeed in correcting to 6 after feeling completely lost, since I had a sense of the direction I'd mistakenly gone; once I hit the stream I was able to figure out quickly where I was along it.
