Orienteering race (Sprint) 21:05 [4] *** 2.5 km (8:26 / km)
ahr:165 max:172 shoes: NB 1060

2007 Chicago Sprint Championships - Adler Park

I know there's been a lot of talk about the Chicago marathon being cancelled due to heat and other unfriendly conditions. However, my "great" route choices allowed for some cool down time. As I was making my way to some control along the river, I tend on occassion to get over confident on my log balancing skills. So, I managed to fall into the river, on top of some branches, then scramble into the very muddy slippery shore...for a while..anyway, I was probably a funny looking orinteer as I was finally getting out of the river. Needless to say, almost all orienteers looked pretty clean at the finish line...

Good setup, I liked the spectator control, not too green...for Chicago. Got a good number of scratches and a larger number of bruises, mostly from falling in the river.

2007 Chicago Sprint Championships - Butler Park

Sprint 2, plenty hot by now. Again, one great chance to cool down. From control 1 to 2, Joe kept teasing us how the river is not out of bounds...and then he pretended he joked about that...right...!! Anyway, it was way too tempting to see the control right across the river, and just swim across it, instead of going all the way around (2 bridges, bla-bla). Anyhow, I was already soaked from my previous river experince, and this was my chance to clean up. And this was no river running...but swimming, after the 1st step you took in the river, the bottom was gone, and here I go, one hand trying to keep the map above the water, the other trying to avoid as many of the weeds...which I hate!! I really enjoyed it, we should have a swimming section during all hot orienteering days!!

Got an OK time, the Hr data is all approximation as I can never remember to turn it on when I take off or to turn it off when I finish.

Both IL and WI are quite not sex discriminatory, so women and men all compete the the title...which I'll never get and I'm ok w/ that. But...just to make myself feel very special, I am simply going to declare myself the women sprint champion, so there!

Oh, let's not forget, Joe throw a bbq party, which was quite welcome after the 2 events. Good job, Joe!

10K Colorama race

Running race (Trail) 1:02:41 [5] 10.0 km (6:16 / km) +300m 5:27 / km
ahr:169 max:183 slept:8.0 shoes: NB 1060

Colorama 10K Run - Lapham Peak

A week before this race I was scrambling on what warm clothes to wear during the race! Sure enough, race day comes, we got record highs (85F) and humid, so ... there was just so much clothing you can take off and still be quite hot.

I was right on track the first 5 k (as in hitting the 1 hour goal). It went downhill from there (this is a methaphore, it was plenty of uphill!!), w/ each k, I thought I was getting closer to die right there!! I was HOT, my head was buzzing every time I tried to walk, and it seemed to get worse if I stopped. So, I kept jogging to keep away the scary buzzy sensation. At k 7 I actually considered quitting, I was already almost 4 min over my goal time, but I looked back and saw a whole bunch of peeps behind me and I said to myself I'm just not going to let my weekness take over and let all those guys pass me. K 9 came, and just like the horse smelling the barn, I got a whole new wave of energy and cranked it to the finish line, gaining more than one min back!

It took me about 7 glass fulls of water and laying on my back for 15 to recover. Never been so tired, but happy to finish!

Made it! Not under an hour, it's true, but looking back, my relative times w/ other runners improved. Made it in the first half in women... that is runner women!! And 100/180 overall today, compared w/ 153/182 last year. Wow, so I passed 50 extra peeps?!?! Yes! Ok, now for next year...hmmm...how about 5 min less ..

Orienteering race 55:00 [4] **** 4.4 km (12:30 / km)
shoes: Integrators

Lapham Peak - Badger event

I got plenty time to recover after the 10K, and I ate everything I saw edible in front of my eyes pretty much the whole time. Oh, then some car backed into mine, oh, I'm geting mad again!!....ok, ok, breath in, breath out.... not too bad afterall, and Marco, the duct tape master, taped my front light just like new...

In that state of mind I left for my orienteering course, so I'll blame on that overshooting 1st control, supposedly the easiest on the course, just could not read the tough "at trail bend, go up the ridge, and the control is there..". Oh well, shortly after that I got into it, got a reasonable relative time (5th after maricel, joe, marco and some guy I don't know scott).

slept:6.5 (rest day)

I'm all giddy today, it must be the race tomorrow! I'm feeling pretty good, just a bit tired from not enough sleep. If I could magically sleep 8 hours tonight!

(rest day)

So, this is how other normal people spend their time... I went for a boat ride and a massage after. Hm, I could get used to this!

Biking (Bike To Work) 35:45 [3] 7.3 mi (4:54 / mi)
ahr:141 max:163 slept:6.0 shoes: Nort face

Down south a couple miles and then roads. Pumped tires to 60. Temps were 60F. One road really got my teeth chattering! It's been 7 weeks since my last bike to work. I rpoly should do it more often than that.

Speed was: 13/19 (miles/hr?)
Cadence: 40/64 (I don't have a sensor, so no clue where these numbers are coming from, or whatever they mean)

Totally surprised by my high HR on the bike...hm

Biking (Bike from work) 30:17 [4] 7.6 mi (3:59 / mi)
ahr:144 spiked:159/slept:6.0 shoes: Nort face

I am so excited!!!!! I made it back home, in one piece, w/ best time ever (out of 2 tries total..I mean, that's a record, right there! Obviously!)

And somehow, my odometer shows 7.6m on the way back, compared w/ 7.3m on the way out. Anyone can explain this?? I know! Maybe it's telepatic, cause the way back seems always longer, now, doesn't it? (tired, blah-blah)

So, I was booking it: Speed: 15.2 / 25.1 (miles/h?)

Don't know, felt like I was booking it, and I'm sticking to it! Realistically (not sure if I'm qualified to use this word), it must be more downhill on the way back, as both times I biked to work there was quite a difference in time.

I did shock my coworkers w/ my biking look, I pretty much had to run to avoid pictures being taken....oh, well, someday I'll be more of a fashionable biker gal. Till then, I'll work on my sneaking out skills.

Say, if I record 2 training sessions, and I put different sleeps time, does that mean I took a nap in the meantime?
