Skiing (cross-country) 1:30:00 [2]

Green bush, purple loop with Greg

Sunny, 30F, perfect deep blue ski, WOW!

The cramped quad bothered me only first 20-30 min till it loosened up. greg thought me one more thing today, besides the poles: lifting top of ski while balancing on the back of it, cause my (left) tip of the ski was always dragging. I think I made a little more progress since two days ago. It's impossible to imagine what a workout that is. I can only go like 100' now without stopping...

I need a bit of rest, but I can't wait to do it again. bye-bye, winter blues! bring on the snow!! Oh, yeah!

Update cold: almost gone. some sniffleing (ok, I'm expert in blowing nose by now ;)
Update ankle; when it's not the top is the outside. Now that is a stubbonish ankle

Stretch/Strength (body pump) 1:00:00 [3]
shoes: NB 1060

The usual..except...EXCEPT my left quad cramped up greatly during the lunges! Ooooohhh.... man, I'm a bit worried I can't ski tomorrow. I can't go up or down the stairs on it now...

train pretend (Zumba) 50:00 [0]
shoes: NB 1060

I had my quad in pain, so I just did it very low key, for entertainment.

Skiing (cross-country) 1:30:00 [2]

Lapham, on the lit trails, with Greg

I decided I'm not a complete looser and I could give skating one more chance. Tried it last year once with marco and maja with no luck. well, maybe greg has more patience cause I'm actually feeling a bit more confident this time. Fell only a couple times (on the flat:)

The word of the day: "work those poles, Pole Engineer!!" :)

Stretch/Strength (Body Pump) 1:00:00 [2]
shoes: NB 1060

Men Falls.

New instructor - uncool. I didn't enjoy it much and we'll proly skip it in the future. Maybe cause I'm feeling kinda sick and tired.

Ankle is not as bad, but still hurting. Top = very little, outside = a bit
Cold = seems to get better. FL definetely did a lot of good.

Running race 2:10:09 [5] 13.1 mi (9:56 / mi)
shoes: NB 1060

ING Miami Half Marathon

First half marathon. It was awesome!

Started about 6am, in the dark, with about 10000 people!! It was crazy! The views were simply amazing, over these long bridges between miami and miami beach. The weather was perfect (just a bit on the warmish side) for half-ers, but it got quite hot for full-ers. I kept pretty much same pace throughout the race.

First 3 miles went by like nothing. I didn't even realize I was tired. Watched the sunrise, just beautiful.

Around mile 8 as I was "sipping" from my gel, I suddenly got so dizzy I thought I'd fall and quit. John, who was a great supporter throughout the race, quickly adviced me to take deep breaths (apparently, eating while running does not allow for so much breathing :)

Second event happend around mile 11, when I diverted my attendtion to my iPod and took a nice plunge, scraped my knees real good. I didn;t look as I was afraid I won't be able to continue. I just got up, a bit dizzy and kept going. Nothing huge. Just slighly painful. Oh, well, a swim in the ocean took care of it.

I have no clue how I made it the last 2 miles. No idea. I was just going. A few times I felt like quads were gonna give up, but somehow I forgot about that too.

Great event. Even for a non-runner like me. It was amazing watching the marathoners finishing after that! Such different emotions.

Note
(sick)

The ankle is the least of my concerns now... I got a cold to fight now!

Tuesday Jan 20, 2009 #

Note
(injured) (sick)

Ankle- suspect inflamed tendon. Iced. feeling better.

Sore throat. Conjested. Trying hard to stop it in its tracks.

train pretend (Body Vive) 45:00 [1]
shoes: NB 1060

Just could not sit still, so did a very-very mild workout, I had to put the sweater on, so no sweating.

Then went to the hot tub (the actual reason to get to the gym), and it fel warmish and the sauna (which I hate) was just simply not hot.

Running (Trail Paved) 1:47:51 [1] 9.35 mi (11:32 / mi) +200m 10:49 / mi
shoes: Nort face

Up north, all solo

Stopped half way at this pizza place in Cedarburg. No, I didn't have a pizza!! However I did think about it :) I had my stupid gu and a glass of water.

Quite a slow pace for the following potential reasons (obviously I had plenty time during the run to think of the reasons :)):

1) tough run last thursday, a bit above and beyond for me
2) tough weight training last night, after a month break
3) 2 glasses of limoncello last night (yum!)
4) strict advice from John to take it easy
5) nice relaxing music on my iPod
6) 2-3" snow on the trail
7) cold, but not too cold, anyway, I was wearing tons of clothes that made movements slighly like tin man

Stretch/Strength (Body Pump) 1:00:00 [3]

feeling a bit tired. quads shut.

Thursday Jan 15, 2009 #

Running (Tread mill) 53:22 [4] 6.0 mi (8:54 / mi)
shoes: NB 1060

Cranked it a bit too much for a training session. Now my quads are just mad at me. Test run to see how fast I could go 6 miles. This weekend I'll do 10miles... and that will start and end my training for a potential 1/2 marathon...

5 min warm up before, and 2 min cool down after.

Ok, the potential 1/2 marathon just materialized into a real thing :)

Running (Tread mill) 1:00:00 [3]

I had this ansty feeling that I had to run, but could not pace myself, so I was running 3 min as fast as I could then walk 1 min.... the whole time. Just could not pace it...

Orienteering 2:41:11 [3] 6.7 mi (24:03 / mi) +700m 18:10 / mi

Craigieburn Park (W of Christchurch) - long

This was quite bad. I pretty much hated it. Lets talk thorns: chicago thorns is NOTHING! I mean NOTHING. Those were just vicious, and half the controls were like in the middle of these things. Some mean course setter, that's what I'd say. I little pacth of bare earth on the middle of the thorns. Oh, well, I guess I gotta 1) improve on my accuracy, so I don;t have to go through same throns twice. 2) improve on my thorn wacking. It'll come :)

Good accomplishemt: got all controls, in spite of the thorns, climb, heat (=> nasty sunburn after), and tough fitness test...

Orienteering 1:08:00 [3] 3.51 mi (19:22 / mi) +400m 14:18 / mi

Relay - Kairaki beach - a bit north of Christchurch

quite some complicate terrain, loved it. Ok, did not love running the dunes. Not sure if my gps watch is accurate with that much climb...

I switched places with Sarah as she had to get back quickly, so they marked that as mp, then they figured out I got them all. Grrr.

Orienteering 2:09:00 [3] 6.32 mi (20:25 / mi) +700m 15:11 / mi

Canaan Downs - west of Nelson

I figured out right at the start my compass was not exactly working in the S hemisphere. I kept trying to match features with what my compass was saying... espacially in the woods, with a bunch of depresions, I had to attack 2-3 times quite a bit of times, till I finally decided to put my compass in my pocket. At least I didn;t have additional extarnal error "information"

Kinda cool terrain, plenty rocks
