Orienteering race 2:16:09 [3] 6.8 mi (20:01 / mi) +287m 17:42 / mi
Well - that was a course. I slowed way down for this race, picking easy routes and sometimes even stopping to really double check my choices because I was determined to have a mostly clean race - and then it all went out the window. I felt like I was doing really well until control #12, where I made a massive parallel error and it just killed my race. (This is where I learn my lesson about the usefulness of compass bearings).
In good news, physically I'm doing way better and am really proud of my running progress (hills still need work though), and my only other big error on the course was partially up to the map. 1:15,000 is not what my brain is used to, so something that I expected to be subtle was not at all subtle and I ended up taking the wrong reentrant, oh well.
It was fun to be out in the woods again and I learned a lot about what I need to work on for the future, so all in all it was a productive weekend. Too bad I missed the extreme-o, but I can only skip so many classes.
