Cold and windy run at Harmony Hill. Piles of leaves all over the trails and the sounds of trees falling over in the wind - maybe I should have skipped this one? Felt alright.

Mountain Bike 3:57:58 [3] 29.97 mi (7:56 / mi)

Continuation of my used-to-be-annual pre-Thanksgiving bike ride. A chilly day at White Clay; took my a while to get into a groove with frequent stops for low tire pressure, removing layers, and potty breaks. Eventually settled in and really enjoyed the ride. My legs were beat by the end.

Orienteering 1:19:29 [4] 6.71 mi (11:51 / mi)
shoes: Hoka Speedgoat 4 (blue/yellow)

Blue course at Fair Hill. My goal was to not worry about going fast and instead navigate really cleanly. I had a short bobble at 3, where I went off trail a bit early and had to correct. I had another small issue between 14 and 15, where I tried to follow a very indistinct trail for a very long way. I couldn't find the correct trail, but soon did under a fallen tree. This leg was super challenging. I also made an error at 19 - I think I tried following the vegetation too closely and got onto the wrong trail. I was lucky to find the wrong flag at a different rootstock and got straightened out from there. Super happy with the whole course - stayed found for nearly all of it and self-corrected quickly when I was off track.

Orienteering 14:29 [5] 1.48 mi (9:47 / mi)
shoes: Hoka Speedgoat 4 (blue/yellow)

Because this event doubled as the Mid-Atlantic Champs, they also had a relay. I didn't have plans on doing it but there were two women who needed a 3rd to make a relay team. Fortunately they needed someone to run the first leg, because I jetted home immediately afterwards.

The first leg was a white course, but I actually found it slightly more technical than a standard white. I ran right behind two others for the first few and then pulled ahead a bit later on. Some nice route choice, and some not-so-nice ladies on horse who yelled at me for having the gall to exist near them. I finished first in my wave. I had only one misdirection, between 3 and 4 but I got found very quickly and adjusted well from there. Lots of fun today!
