Weights/Stretching 15:00 [5]

Core workout that I found online - NOT easy.

Run (Trail run) 23:39 [4] 3.16 mi (7:29 / mi)
shoes: Topo Ultraventure (grey/green)

Run at Harmony Hill from the Trestle Bridge. Plan was for longer, but my legs were tight. Felt alright, but it was cold.

Orienteering 53:04 [4] 3.87 mi (13:43 / mi)
shoes: Hoka Speedgoat 4 (blue/yellow)

Red Course at Green Lane. Super sharp in areas, often unavoidable, which was frustrating. I did pretty well, with a small error before 10 that I caught quickly. I was pretty happy with how the rest of the course played out. Just wish I had finished with fewer thorns in my pants and less blood on my legs.
12 PM

Orienteering 24:38 [4] 1.96 mi (12:34 / mi)
shoes: Hoka Speedgoat 4 (blue/yellow)

I wanted a second course, but I was told that Green was essentially a copy of red, so Orange was the best choice. Many repeat controls but only 3 repeat legs. I did well again (some knowledge of the controls was helpful) but made a stupid mistake out of 7 and turned the wrong way on the trail. Lots of fun today!

Simple spin at home.

Run (Trail run) 37:08 [3] 4.39 mi (8:28 / mi)
shoes: Topo Terraventure 3 (Navy/Oran

Cold and windy run at Harmony Hill. Piles of leaves all over the trails and the sounds of trees falling over in the wind - maybe I should have skipped this one? Felt alright.

Hike/Trekking 1:33:11 [1] 3.18 mi (29:18 / mi)
shoes: Topo Terraventure 3 (Navy/Oran

Family hike of Mt. Misery before Thanksgiving dinner.

Mountain Bike 3:57:58 [3] 29.97 mi (7:56 / mi)

Continuation of my used-to-be-annual pre-Thanksgiving bike ride. A chilly day at White Clay; took my a while to get into a groove with frequent stops for low tire pressure, removing layers, and potty breaks. Eventually settled in and really enjoyed the ride. My legs were beat by the end.

Orienteering 1:19:29 [4] 6.71 mi (11:51 / mi)
shoes: Hoka Speedgoat 4 (blue/yellow)

Blue course at Fair Hill. My goal was to not worry about going fast and instead navigate really cleanly. I had a short bobble at 3, where I went off trail a bit early and had to correct. I had another small issue between 14 and 15, where I tried to follow a very indistinct trail for a very long way. I couldn't find the correct trail, but soon did under a fallen tree. This leg was super challenging. I also made an error at 19 - I think I tried following the vegetation too closely and got onto the wrong trail. I was lucky to find the wrong flag at a different rootstock and got straightened out from there. Super happy with the whole course - stayed found for nearly all of it and self-corrected quickly when I was off track.
2 PM

Orienteering 14:29 [5] 1.48 mi (9:47 / mi)
shoes: Hoka Speedgoat 4 (blue/yellow)

Because this event doubled as the Mid-Atlantic Champs, they also had a relay. I didn't have plans on doing it but there were two women who needed a 3rd to make a relay team. Fortunately they needed someone to run the first leg, because I jetted home immediately afterwards.

The first leg was a white course, but I actually found it slightly more technical than a standard white. I ran right behind two others for the first few and then pulled ahead a bit later on. Some nice route choice, and some not-so-nice ladies on horse who yelled at me for having the gall to exist near them. I finished first in my wave. I had only one misdirection, between 3 and 4 but I got found very quickly and adjusted well from there. Lots of fun today!

Run (Trail run) 29:03 [5] 4.01 mi (7:15 / mi)
shoes: Topo Terraventure 3 (Navy/Oran

Hard run at Stroud on red trail. Realized just this week that my PR wasn't out of reach, so I went for it. Rather cold and windy, only a decent set of legs, but very happy with the fast time.

Mountain Bike 45:30 [1] 3.83 mi (11:53 / mi)

Late afternoon ride with Noah at Harmony Hill from the Trestle Bridge. His first ride in a while but did a great job. Got dark very quickly.

Run 45:35 [5] 6.02 mi (7:34 / mi)
shoes: Topo Ultraventure (grey/green)

Tough, hard run at Cheslen. Super happy with the end result, working hard to keep up the pace even on the steep sections. Felt pretty good.

Run (Trail run) 32:54 [5] 4.52 mi (7:17 / mi)

Fast run at a new place - Timber Top Trail. Small and nothing remarkable about the place. Pushed hard and felt good.

Hike/Trekking 2:31:25 [1] 4.54 mi (33:21 / mi)

Fun time cleaning up the Tough Cookie course with Noah. Rather cold but we had a great time. My first wearing my Topo gaiters off trail, and I was really impressed with them.

Mountain Bike 1:54:03 [3] 12.13 mi (9:24 / mi)

Ride at Marsh Creek. Focused on riding everything behind the dam. Kept the speed low because of the wet leaves. Ended up being a fun ride.

Run (Trail run) 1:07:50 [3] 7.33 mi (9:15 / mi)
shoes: Hoka Speedgoat 4 (blue/yellow)

Ok run at Cheslen. Morning rain had dried up most of the way. Weather was very nice - didn't have my best legs (and it's time to get new socks too - my toes hurt) or my best stomach...

Run (Trail run) 59:22 [3] 6.86 mi (8:39 / mi)
shoes: Topo Ultraventure (grey/green)

Run down the mysterious white blazed "Brandywine Trail" from Stroud. Went a little further this time, but still not sure where it ends. Didn't have my best stuff, so kept it easy until I realized that I was super slow on the way home. Pushed hard the last 1+ miles.

Road Bike 2:45:51 [3] 40.75 mi (4:04 / mi)

Started out as a fun road ride, ended up being way too long, way too cold and too dark by the end, not enough food, not enough water. I felt like a zombie for the last 90 minutes. I hope that neither myself, my friends, my family, or my ancestors ever have a bike ride like this.

Mountain Bike 1:24:40 [4] 11.01 mi (7:41 / mi)

Fun fall ride at Harmony Hill. Added some variety by riding trails in ways that I usually don't, and trying my best to ride over (not around) every rock and root I could find. Did very well, felt really good. Some sections were so quintessentially fall that I tried to take a mental picture.

Run 4:15:55 [4] 16.38 mi (15:37 / mi)
shoes: Topo Terraventure 3 (Navy/Oran

Big day with my friend Ethan from college. Haven't seen him since his wedding in ~4 years, but he's been getting into hiking, then backpacking, then running. This was what had been planned for Tuesday; happy that we could reschedule for today. Started off at 30 degrees in the dark at the Hamburg Reservoir. Way too many layers and I struggled to acclimate to the weather for nearly 2 hours. Finally settled on long sleeves, shorts, and gloves which was perfect in the mid- to high-40s weather. The views were stunning today. So happy to be out there and doing it with a good friend. Ended up being the perfect activity.

The route was identical to what I did there in June 2018. AT to Pulpit, Pinnacle, then up to the Port Clinton Fire Tower, down and up through Rattling Run and back down the AT through Minnehaha Springs.

This, combined with a fun afternoon outside with Noah, made for the best day I've had in ages.

Simple jog to keep the legs loose. Feeling rather good after yesterday's effort.

Run (Trail run) 1:39:47 [3] 11.2 mi (8:55 / mi)
shoes: Topo Terraventure 3 (Navy/Oran

I had prepared for a long, long trek/run with a college friend, but I woke up to a text saying that he had food poisoning...I adapted with a long run at Cheslen in the cool mist. This was supposed to be the elusive perimeter run, but a closed section of trail actually made it a good bit longer. My goal was to finish with a sub-9:00 pace and also have legs at the end. I very intentionally used my gps watch to help keep myself under control at the beginning and also speed up as needed on the flat sections in the middle. Extremely happy with this effort.
