Oh boy. I tried to go for an easy 4 k, but my ankle blew out almost right away. Thursday was a disaster for getting this injury again. Tasha says it's due to tight calf/lower leg muscles, so I stretched well in the evening. I hope I can do the meet tomorrow!

Gorgeous evening at March Highlands. Hot weather, but lovely in the woods. Lots of mountain bikes around! Focus on visualizing your strategy. I pictured using C.A.R.E. at each control. Worked well! I bee-lined my first control on the intermediate course right through the woods until the flag was under my nose. What a great start! Found all of the controls, but ran out of time by the 11th. On my way back to the start, I had a bad fall and really hurt my right side. I was feeling tired at that point, so am not surprised that a root caught my right foot. The ground was bumpy and lumpy, and I ended up looking like and feeling like same after I went T over A. Lost my map temporarily, lost my bearings, and hobbled back - late- to the start. Felt bad, as we car-pooled with Errol, and he had to extend his Virtucar booking... :(
Worst part was that my ankle blew out. The usual injury, this time L ankle/outer foot. Just couldn't get it to go back to normal.
Later: the night was painful!! I kept waking up through the night with a severely sore L foot - all over, but especially under the foot! It felt like it was really swollen and irritated, so I popped one aspirin at around 1:30 or so. It helped, I slept, and after walking around in the morning it seemed to go away.
It's still simmering on the back burner, though.
Positive point: spraying lower legs with DEET. Keeps the ticks away!

World Orienteering Day! Took a personal day off work to help out at the various events Francis organized with the club to make this a special reaching out day in the community.
Started with a drive to the Arboretum to get the crew set up for the arrival of 45 high school students who were going to do the courses there.
Made our way downtown to City Hall, where we set up a novice course for people to do for free. Hazel was with us, and she proved to be a great 'lure' to bring in some people! I had my first experience setting some controls, and worked registration with Lorna. Then, Cathy and I walked the route with Hazel to see if people wanted to try O-ing. Got a few folks out! At one point I took two Lisgar students who were on lunch break (Ana and Muna). They were good at reading the map, and of course loved Hazel.
After a Tim's lunch and dropping off Hazel at home, Francis and I went to Lansdowne Park to help set up for the evening event: some sprint courses on Stefan's map. I helped out with registration again, then went on the advanced course. It was great!! I loved it. Did fairly well for me (31:37 on between 3.5 and 4 k(?) on a course that proved to have one or two tricky controls). Great weather: 22 deg and sunny. Lots of people came out. I finished in the middle of about 38 starts.
A great effort by the usual crew to set up and tear down; Francis did a great job setting the whole day up too.
Cold beers in the evening at 9:30 with a Thai Express meal. Awesome!
