ahr:129 max:151

NOTE. I honestly thought the foot was broke. But I got the best news. I got a steroid injection and footpads.....run in 24 hours. This was from NVii dobs first worn at Lubrecht. But I still think they're great shoes.
It feels like I've only got half the dosage required at the moment. Let's see what tomorrow brings. One things for sure tomorrow's bringing a massive powder day. Travelled over Dallas Divide twice today and both times were treacherous.
Skate on Valley Floor was cool. Squeezed it in at the end of the day. (Although all T-ride sports were cancelled due to the dump.) Piste was 4" deep, but decent glide.

(rest day)

Got in at 2am after a very stressful drive over Lizard Head Pass. Had to dig the car out at Durango Airport at 11pm. Got up late and my foot is in a ton of pain. This probably means no training for the next two days as I've got the podiatrist tomorrow.
NB. One take from the weekend. Got a new Silva before the races. Very, very happy the way it performed. Much better than the previous. Hopefully it doesn't get a bubble.

Orienteering 55:25 [3] 7.41 km (7:28 / km) +242m 6:25 / km
ahr:147 max:173

Topsy Turvey day. Started with a speeding ticket (and I knew he was there!!!). I've been driving within the speed limit for the last four years. So I was so annoyed. On a plus my verbal diarrhoea in Smoggy Yorkshire did the business and I got the ticket reduced from 88mph to 79mph. (no idea what the fine is.)
Then about to leave to race and Newcastle give up a penner.....leave.

The race was terrible. Typical US course on this type of terrain, which I've grown to love. But I just completely blew it.
#1-4 steady. Nailed everything. But slow.
4-5 somehow went too low on the initial spur and made a horrific parallel error on the southerly path. Relocated at the building. Easy a 6 mins.
#7 was just a massive stumble ending in an area close to #8. Located off the gullies NW off 8 and smashed my toe. (On the footpad to be looked at Tuesday.). 4-5 mins. NOTE. Jus seen GPS on 7. Unbelievably lucky. Was 200m out from the spur with the ruin where I thought I was. The marsh areas threw me.
Limped home pissed.
Easily +10mins lost total.
.....THEN....found out Mitro "missed' the penner and Newcastle won!!!!! What a belter of a day. Everything's good when The Mags win.
NB. Kendal had a cracking result. (Nobody knows anything at the time of writing, but both of us were 2nd.). And Eadie made a 30 min mistake, but crushed it. A very positive outcome in the end.
NNB. Great course today and fantastic weekend generally.

Orienteering 46:32 [3] 7.09 km (6:34 / km) +187m 5:48 / km
ahr:145 max:168

Steady and happy.
(Except for #11 3mins. Stream/path junction came up way too quickly and got confused.)
Lots of time dropped on poor route choices. But can't really complain about those. I chose them!
#2 went safe, dropped to the stream and attacked from root stocks.
#3 bared to the south 50m. Hit path to come up to it.
#9 took the long route to the North. If I'd gone South it'd been shorter/faster and less climb.
Solid run. Just really stupid on #11.

NB. Girls had a rough day. Especially Kendal.

Orienteering 26:42 [3] 4.01 km (6:39 / km) +104m 5:53 / km
ahr:148 max:165

Good day for Team O'Callaghan today. Eadie finished. Kendal was bouncing after her 3rd place and I had a decent run.....not perfect and the effort could/should have been greater.
#1 Steady into it. Just wanted to spike it.
#2 very slow on the approach to the circle.
#3 30secs??? lost. Bared right to hit the path, but never registered it. Hit the stream between 4-5 and corrected.
#4 Easy in.
#5 I thought the veg mapping was dodgy here. Threw me a tad. Slow into it.
#6 Bearing too far left. 75m. 30secs????
#7-9 nailed.
#10 GOT LUCKY. I actually thought 10 was on a climb out the flat. NOT a decent. Saw some people approach it and gambled that it was it. Totally confused.
#11 Too far right 20m. 30 secs.
#12 Started to get desperate as my specs were starting to fog. Just tried running harder and so started making daft mistakes. Nailed 12 straight BUT I read it as 99 not 66. So left dejected. Stopped. Checked Description. Swore and headed back. 15secs.
#13 slight right.
#14-16 cruised.
I'm guessing 1:45 lost...but I feel I could have gone faster in the first half. (But the wheels probably would have come off sooner).
NB. Couple of things about today's run. Some mornings recently I've had vision problems. Today was the worst ever. It's like I'm wearing 3D glasses. Distance objects have a shadow. No problems during the race at all, but right up to the start line....worried.
NNB. For the middle, should I have ran Red or maybe Blue, probably. But I've decided to commit to Green this year after last years terrible showings. I've also decided that I was taking O way too seriously. I've done zero prep/mileage for this and this is a very similar run to Lubrecht Middle. (I did stack the mileage for that, but no maps or terrain runs prior just like today.)
NNB. Now to achieve something never done before. Back to back decent runs. That's like finding Unicorn Shit. Wish I was Kim Jong Un. I think the lad steps in it every morning before breakfast?

Changed training focus to Westpoint. More excited about that, more doable and gives me more time to lose the phantom pregnancy.

Running 1:02:12 [3] 11.21 km (5:33 / km) +123m 5:16 / km
ahr:136 max:152

Planned to do a mix run. Couldn't get my HR near threshold. Ended up a plain Steady effort. Should have worn dobs (icebugs not nvii), but had micro spikes so ok. Various depths of snow. More of a terrain run in Illium. Needed to run as I've barely put any mileage in since Thanksgiving. DOMS guaranteed tomorrow.

Alpine Skiing 50:25 [3] 15.3 km (3:18 / km) +3422m 1:33 / km
ahr:92 max:113

Met Candice at 1 knowing I was going to get my arse kicked. But Candice is like the Lord Mayor of T-Ride. Knows everyone. She picks up Dan Hair the local ER doc who skis like Perman Zübriggen (yep he's about that old too...at least in ski clothes) and the two of them left me a shell of a man. Never done so much in two hours. Full on knee deep powder. Epic conditions. I finished on my staple of Lift Nine. I've been devastated all season that the lift won't come on line. Now I'll be gutted when it does. Only locals bother hiking to it and the results are like drinking a Russian Baby Maker (if they actually exist). Sublime. Virgin powder, no bumps...just breath taking.
I hate to say this, but.....I really don't want to go orienteering this weekend.
