Orienteering 1:25:39 [5] 6.9 mi (12:25 / mi) +290m 10:59 / mi
shoes: Icebug Spirit 4

A much better day than the first.

First error on 3 as I wandered right a little. 4 was not visible, so I balked and slowed up - but it was just a bit further. That seemed to be a theme - everything was 10 paces further than I thought it was going to be.

Splits suggest it was a little longer on 8, but I thought I plotted out how to get there reasonably well. (went up the path, crossed the deep gully, crossed the plateau to it) Looking now, avoiding the climb entirely would be shorter, but easier to miss that wiggle.

After that, I was in a good groove. Good split to 10, and consistent splits for all the others. Notably, went out to the road 14-15 and avoided the hill. Not sure it saved me time, but it did save my legs some climb.

Orienteering race 2:19:13 [5] 8.2 km (16:59 / km) +275m 14:32 / km

Day 1 at Letchworth, not my best...

Climbed out of the starts, and thought I was ok - figured I'd know if I hit the side trail instead of the road, but got to the road ok... Until it turned out this road was the side trail, gah, needed to climb back up the trail.

Messy at 2, but thought I did 3-10 ok.

Then wondered why the rocks I was seeing between 10 and 11 weren't on the map... oh wait - they are, I'm not there, I'm there... Since I was on a trend to it, I went to the trail and had some water, planning to drop down to 11 - and with a little extra work, did so.

Then the wheels came off on the way to 12. I didn't find it in a first pass, or a second circle. I found a swamp and was looking uphill from it - after relocating to the path, getting to 11 again, and slowly going, I found it - below the swam, that in this case wasn't apparently mapped.

Climbed a hill too soon at 14 and made it in sluggish...
