Neighborhood run. ~30°F and dreary-grey overcast skies – but not too unpleasantly cold with the right layers on.

I'll call the conditions "wintry mix": some clear pavement, some slush, some ice, and a long stretch of deep packed snow on the Coal Creek trail.

Georgia Navigator Cup Day 3 — Classic course at Lake Franklin.

Oof...definitely my worst outing of the three days.

1 and 2 went OK, but then I had a major wandering disaster on my way to 3 (see spaghetti tracks below...). My plan was to go through the saddle just northeast of 2, but obviously I was off* and I *totally* lost contact with the map badly enough that I considered quitting.

After that, I was briefly encouraged when I realized I had passed Anna to 4 — but she quickly overtook me and dropped me again after 6.

I pushed hard through the rest of the course after 3 to try to make up some time, but I still finished 20 minutes behind Anna — in part because of very inefficient, wide-swinging routes to 7, 8(!), and 10.

("Inefficient" and "banana leg" are apparently the defining descriptors for my races this weekend...)

Still good enough for second overall out of six F50s, though.

*I'm wondering if I should stop wearing my Garmin watch and clue-sheet holder on the same arm as my compass hand?
