Orienteering race 1:30:43 [3] 4.68 mi (19:23 / mi)
slept:7.0 shoes: Salomon Speedcross (2022-Wide)

Georgia Navigator Cup Day 3 — Classic course at Lake Franklin.

Oof...definitely my worst outing of the three days.

1 and 2 went OK, but then I had a major wandering disaster on my way to 3 (see spaghetti tracks below...). My plan was to go through the saddle just northeast of 2, but obviously I was off* and I *totally* lost contact with the map badly enough that I considered quitting.

After that, I was briefly encouraged when I realized I had passed Anna to 4 — but she quickly overtook me and dropped me again after 6.

I pushed hard through the rest of the course after 3 to try to make up some time, but I still finished 20 minutes behind Anna — in part because of very inefficient, wide-swinging routes to 7, 8(!), and 10.

("Inefficient" and "banana leg" are apparently the defining descriptors for my races this weekend...)

Still good enough for second overall out of six F50s, though.

*I'm wondering if I should stop wearing my Garmin watch and clue-sheet holder on the same arm as my compass hand?

Orienteering race 1:15:28 [3] 4.09 mi (18:27 / mi)
slept:8.0 shoes: Salomon Speedcross (2022-Wide)

Georgia Navigator Cup Day 2 — Classic course at Lake Franklin.

Sigh...a dumb, time-wasting blunder in the way to #1.

And then my usual inefficient "banana" legs (4, 5, and especially 9).

Afterwards, drove over to Opelika, AL, to see my grandmother's childhood home, the courthouse where her father worked, and their grave sites.

Georgia Navigator Cup Day 1 — Middle-Distance at Lake Delano.

Some inefficiences here-and-there ("banana" legs), but nothing disastrous. And I wasn't DFL on Red, hooray!

Travel day.

(And one round of January fitness challenge strength stuff.)

My flight landed at ATL just before the tornado warnings went off (that nails-on-chalkboard EBS tone, roughly in unison on everyone's phones while we were still sitting on the tarmac feeling the wind blow the plane around a bit -- wild).

The hazardous weather had caused rental car cleaning / processing to stop for a while, so I had the choice between waiting two hours for my Thrifty car reservation or taking my immediately-available Avis car (truck!) for $110 more. (I had two reservations since there's no financial penalty for that and I'm always chasing a lower rate with Autoslash.com.) Ugh...I decided I didn't want to wait for two hours.

Had a delicious Ethiopian meal (my favorite pre-race food) on my way out of ATL, with enough leftovers to eat for dinner again the next night (making up for the extra rental car expense?!).

Parts of LaGrange (including the Walmart I tried to go to for groceries) were pitch-black due to tornado-related power outages, but luckily it was business-as-usual at my hotel.

Warmup, three laps on the rec center hill loop, cooldown.

(~30°F, overcast / dusk, no wind: North face fleece tights, thin wool baselayer, black fleece jacket, black running gloves w/ mitten cover — too warm. #ColdWeatherClothing)
