Trail run in Boulder -- Doudy Draw, Spring Brook, Goshawk Ridge, Fowler spur into Eldorado Canyon State Park, and then back on the other parts of Fowler & Spring Brook to complete the upper loop.

The trails weren't too crowded (I had to wait for a parking spot, but I guess everyone headed to the more northern trails), but almost NO ONE was wearing a mask -- quite a contrast from the trails around Louisville.

I didn't get started until about 2pm, but thankfully there was plenty of cloud cover.

I stopped several times for taking photos, checking the trail map, and stepping aside for mountain bikers; actual moving time was 2:08:00.

Run / Hike 16:44 [3] 1.04 mi (16:05 / mi) +74ft 15:04 / mi
shoes: Brooks Adrenaline (2020)

I was so hungry after my run that ended up wolfing down a huge lunch / dinner (Indian) -- and an entire 750 ml bottle of beer since my food was spicy and I couldn't re-cap the bottle anyway.

I went for a walk around the block, hoping to feel less over-stuffed -- just as a gusty dry thunderstorm was rolling through. The lightning didn't seem all that close...but I was hustling, just in case.

I would have gotten a late start anyway, but then there was also a thunderstorm just as I was getting ready to leave. The weather was pleasant once the lightning and rain stopped -- 66 degrees and not humid.

I went the long way up to Harper Lake (via Leslie's house, to drop off a mask), two laps around the lake (saw a blue heron), and then back the same way with a loop around the rec center.

I've been taking a break from running to see how that affected the calf pain I was having last week. Calves felt very tight for ~2.5 miles, but not painful.

Note

Dammit! There's not enough runway left for me to get ahead again. :-P

A quick walk in between afternoon meetings.

Cycling 1:12:48 [3] 12.24 mi (5:57 / mi) +595ft 5:41 / mi
shoes: Safire

This started out as a ride to complete a quick errand -- but I convinced myself to go a bit further, and then a bit further, and then to do a loop.

And I'm so glad I continued past the point(s) where I considered turning around! As I was huffing and puffing up the short, steep hill where Coal Creek Drive turns into 66th Street (a hill I walked my bike up last time -- yay!), I thought I heard a truck's back-up beeper (there's a water tank over there, and also an old landfill -- seeing big trucks around there isn't unusual).

But, as I crested the hill, I saw a group of about 30 people hula-hooping...with music...and a drone overhead getting footage of it all. What the what?! It was someone's 50th birthday, apparently. It looked like LOTS of fun, and someone offered me a beer, but I was losing daylight and had no lights (since this ride started out as a quick errand...).

It was hilarious -- I couldn't stop laughing for a while as I continued on.

I was really worried about having a mechanical issue (I realized shortly before encountering the party that I had my running pack, not my biking pack, and therefore no spare tube, no tools, etc.), and also worried about getting run over on Marshall Road riding at dusk with no lights -- but I made it home. Whew.
