Long run 1:11:14 intensity: (23 @0) + (38 @1) + (12:34 @2) + (57:39 @3) 9.42 km (7:34 / km) +252m 6:40 / km

Given it's just round the corner, I drove up early towards Charlie's to do a decent sized loop round the next State Park, Nassahegan. Despite the extreme sogginess of the day, had a very nice outing in some beautiful woods. I'm not quite sure why the DEEP makes it so difficult to find out about this place, because it was really great in a lot of places. Upper legs felt tired but body didn't feel too bad aside from them.
5 PM

Orienteering 40:28 intensity: (8 @0) + (7 @1) + (49 @2) + (33:41 @3) + (5:43 @4) 3.69 km (10:58 / km) +88m 9:48 / km
ahr:166 max:181 shoes: Integrators 5000

Pretty good showing for a RHINO. Got stonkingly disorientated at number 6-7, but otherwise pretty steady and okay. Legs a bit stiff from earlier on, but felt more confident out there in the laurel than I have before. Then an excellent evening of fun and laughter followed by a dreadful drive home. I wish they had in road reflectors for nights like this.

Running 50:45 intensity: (32 @0) + (2:43 @1) + (6:38 @2) + (39:00 @3) + (1:52 @4) 8.83 km (5:45 / km) +84m 5:29 / km

Thought I might bail today then didn't, and enjoyed it a lot. A pre sundown run with two 1 minute hill repeats near the end. The second felt much better than the first.

Eurgh, Yale gym. It will hopefully be more fun when Rob joins me. They do at least have kettlebells, but nowhere to do pull ups if you are short with short arms.

I did an Ian again. After a horrible day mostly spent listening to other people talk at length or hunched over a computer, I finally finished planning my Section at 9.30pm and realised I had to do something because I felt horrible. So an easy three miles around the neighbourhood. My legs weren't that happy but my brain appreciated it. Sleepy now.

Note

Today I don't want to be a grown up! Why is it always Tuesdays?!

Tired this morning, tried to sleep in but Rosie sat on my head. Will try for the run just before dark, after an afternoon of hunching over the microscope.
3 PM

Tempo run 48:58 intensity: (48 @0) + (46 @1) + (12:37 @2) + (25:11 @3) + (9:36 @4) 8.6 km (5:42 / km) +99m 5:23 / km
ahr:158 max:185 shoes: Shiny red Sauconys

Had to try very hard not to bail on this session. Took some time out mid afternoon and hit the trails at the bottom of East Rock for 2 x 5 mins tempo. Ran it pretty well, aside from the last 30 seconds of the first rep when I was assaulted by a very confused small dog who then sprinted across Whitney. I have no idea how it didn't die. The owners appeared about 20 seconds later, desperately chasing it. No idea what happened but I hope they found it and calmed it down. I started off being scared of being bitten then when it sprinted off it was obvious there was something wrong with it.

Recovery 10:06 intensity: (14 @0) + (26 @1) + (5:25 @2) + (4:01 @3) 1.61 km (6:17 / km) +11m 6:04 / km
ahr:145 max:155 shoes: Shiny red Sauconys

Was too far away from my target destination of the gym, where I managed to register with nasty man's very helpful assistant, then when I got out it was cold so I jogged back to work. Have felt mildly nauseous all afternoon and hope it's just from first harder running in a while and not some bug. Dinner didn't make it worse so hopefully nothing serious.

Running 43:10 intensity: (6:19 @0) + (27:27 @1) + (9:24 @2) 6.44 km (6:42 / km) +48m 6:28 / km
ahr:139 max:154 shoes: 2014 Saucony cohesions

Phase 1 complete! Phase 2 starts today with a recovery run. That felt fine but I've felt worse and worse during the day and am a bit worried I am getting ill. Early night tonight and I hope that will sort me out. I don't think the crazy weather changes are helping.

Have started using my DOMA again - maps from the last few weeks at: http://sprintseries.org/doma/index.php?user=becks

Today's final control mistake is particularly agonising!
10 AM

Orienteering 1:13:35 intensity: (2:50 @0) + (2:30 @1) + (7:35 @2) + (46:13 @3) + (14:27 @4) 8.58 km (8:34 / km) +319m 7:14 / km
ahr:165 max:183 shoes: Integrators 5000

Hmm...mixed feelings about today. Two obvious big mistakes - the first attacking number 7 from above rather than below - lots of windblow and crag was unclear from above but massive from below. Then ran right to the final control, but the flag was hung very low and it was surrounded by a group of guys taking a very long time to do a bearing, so I never saw it. Cue re-attack from up the hill, then overshoot to below, before eventually returning to the same boulder I started at. Booo. Very frustrating way to end. Thought I was running okay but I think that only applied to the flat and downhills, because I was a long long way back from the big boys, 4 mins per km. Despite those two mistakes I don't think I lost ten minutes on them! Work to do! Definitely out of puff and sore legged on the ups.

Time here includes a warm up jog to the bathroom and a short warm down after to get up to distance.
