Note
(rest day)

Definitely getting old. After my total wipe out at number one yesterday, everything is twinging and pulling in the wrong direction today. Ibuprofen and a rest day I think!

Edit: But the interwebs have returned! Excellent.

Running 2:19:03 intensity: (4:23 @1) + (1:40:10 @2) + (29:30 @3) + (5:00 @4) 13.27 mi (10:29 / mi) +397m 9:35 / mi

So, after an afternoon of wasting all this gorgeous weather in the flat playing "Clem, why don't you come out from behind the boiler?" and "exciting wait for the AT & T man," I decided I would do today's planned session anyway, and end it at the lab where the mouseys were waiting to be put back. Need to mess around with my zones as a max of 148 is too slow, even for long slow runs. Plan said 13 miles easy, and that's what it was. I sped up for the last couple of miles because I was bored and going to be late for the mouseys. At the top of East Rock I saw a deer that was so unalarmed by my presence that I managed to stroke it. It wasn't bothered at all. That's more than I managed with Rosie! Crazy. Very glad to make it out, my shin bruise is sore when running but the twinging stuff eased very quickly. Maybe I'm not that old after all :)

So, of course, what AT & T actually meant when they said they'd activate my internet yesterday was "we'll try to activate your internet, fail, then let you drag your desktop around every potential phone port in the house, test the connection, then let you spend an hour on the phone talking to a computer so we can perform a thirty second test to figure out that we failed to switch it on, then make you wait another two days for an engineer to come round". Not impressed!

It's a good job I wasn't that bothered about watching Jukola isn't it?

Orienteering race 13:41 intensity: (52 @0) + (25 @1) + (3 @2) + (1:43 @3) + (5:41 @4) + (4:57 @5) 2.02 km (6:47 / km) +57m 5:56 / km

Race 1 at Ratlum. Really fun sprint planned by Charlie. Totally wiped out with the old rubber studs on slimy wooden bridge trick at number one, then struggled a bit through the veg to achieve the top of the hill at number 2. After that not too bad at all, heart racing by the time I got back to the top of the hill.

Orienteering race 13:02 intensity: (20 @1) + (5 @2) + (32 @3) + (4:25 @4) + (7:40 @5) 2.12 km (6:10 / km) +35m 5:41 / km

Race 2 at Ratlum, maintaining Team Dibs in their favourite second place. Despite going a bit faster than Joe on this leg he had too much of a lead to catch. Bad route to one, thought I'd be able to cut through the woods, then changed my mind when I saw them - should have started out the same way as the first lap. After than pretty much spot on - tried to cut a corner to the platform but then went round when I saw the veg. Running hard at the end - that's the highest my pulse has made it in a long while! JJ managed not to die (today at least), and we were pleased with our efforts.

And also - 6!
7 AM

Running 1:01:30 intensity: (50 @1) + (1:20 @2) + (57:33 @3) + (1:47 @4) 7.0 mi (8:47 / mi) +207m 8:03 / mi

7 miles steady. Looked at the training plan this morning and thought "that seems like a lot for a sunny early Thursday morning." Got out there and it felt great. I saw a really big turtle/tortoise, and just past it were a group of kids doing some outside summer camp thing. I asked them if they'd seen the turtle, and the adult with them went "woah woah woah, just got to go and check it's safe first!" What's a turtle going to do to a group of eight children? Use it's turtle wiles to recruit them into some subterranean mining operation? Brilliant. I understand they can give a heck of a bite if you put your finger near their mouth, but then you deserve it.

Running 53:22 intensity: (2:30 @1) + (15:35 @2) + (11:40 @3) + (15:08 @4) + (8:29 @5) 5.23 mi (10:12 / mi) +211m 9:04 / mi
ahr:162 max:189 shoes: Red Saucony Cohesion

Intervals in the woods. I figured that seeing as I handily missed all the road races for spring, I might I well go back to base building until August time. Still going to do intervals, but on twisty turny undulaty stuff instead. 6 x 800m with 200m recovery. Much more fun than track!

Recovery run early morning in East Rock. Still nice and cool, but threatening more. Felt stiff at the start but pretty good by the end. Yey! Back in the swing of things.
