Orienteering race 1:34:58 [3] 8.06 km (11:47 / km) +297m 9:57 / km

Score-O at Osborndale in Derby, CT, nicely arranged by WCOC. Great weather, sunny and around 20 C. First time I have ever done Score-O, at least can't remember ever doing it in Sweden as a teenager. So my excuse is I was on a learning curve. Failing to fully read the instructions didn't help either!

I decided to start going north and counter-clockwise. South and clockwise would have been a slightly better choice, in hindsight. Did all but two controls (51 and 62), since I ran out of time, but also in hindsight I should have done them and taken the additional time penalty, would have gained me another 70 points net.
My control order was 43-64-52-46-61-57-58-63 (didn't realize the two bonus controls around 63!) - 56-39-47-68-65-38-49-53-54-45-44-66 (should have done 66 before 54)-67-66. Finished at 94:58, 5 minute time penalty, and 1040 points. Control point value was 10x first digit in control number.

No major mistakes, other than not knowing that green is really green here! "Ate" brambleberry and gave blood going to 64 and 46. Lost probably 3 minutes to 64 and 6-7 minutes to 46 by fighting through really dense thorns. Still pulling them out of my arms and legs, 2 days later! Also 3 minutes by not going to 66 before 54, poor route choice.

In spite of all, really enjoyed it.

Orienteering race (*** 8.98km / 10.07 min/km) 1:31:24 [3] 7.3 km (12:31 / km) +387m 9:54 / km

HVOs annual Muscoot Farm race. Running speed is improving but I made some silly mistakes (#1 - went too far to the left, lost 3 mins; #7 - went too far and to the North, lost 2 mins) and one bad route choice (#5 - should have followed the paths instead of straight through, lost 1 min). Plus some other wigglies, in total 8-9 minutes. Really need to work on technique, in addition to running speed through terrain!

Fun course, I find Muscoot Farm terrain to be slow with lots of brambles and rocks, which is reflected in many of my splits times.
