Canadian Orienteering Championship
Sprint-O
Monora Park, Orangeville, Ontario
[37.0%]

The event started 1h40 late. It would have been impossible to see Kyle's drama in Tillsonburg.

My registration (including SportIdent card) was misplaced by organizers & I was forced to make three trips to the start, an additional 6k run immediately preceding my start. That stress is part of my excuse for the blow-up after control #9. My perception of pace was wrong. I never did find the hydro-electric wire I planned for route.

When my peers who started behind me caught me, it was time to panic. I brought out compass, headed north to sound of vehicles but I was at the lake & road 700 metres too distant. Nearly ten minutes after control #9, I came upon #16.

Health wise, I'm moving beyond the sore throat and congestion now to the cough.

slept:2.5 (sick) shoes: adidas Supernova Cushion

Again, the run felt great.

Congestion prevented any sleep until this morning from 9h to 11h30. So little sleep on second night from race could seriously impact performance but...
1) my event is a very late start, 16h39.
2) on so little sleep, I should fall asleep easily tonight.
3) some of my best orienteering results occur when my speed is factored out.

I may be staying home tomorrow. For certain, I plan no all-nighter for Saturday.

No work, again.

Run felt real good: monarchs.

Fred and/or son are NOT going to Tillsonburg. I have one final card to play. Will Nana pass up 45th anniversary hotel for me to see birthday beast?

Destroyed sunglasses.

I slept little after last night's late drive from Dorval but I had the radio company of the longest 9 inning game in MLB history: Yanks @ Bosox.
Yesterday I had a few ibuprofen which prepared my ankle well.
Mike Caldwell cut the race course short from published map. With my dehydration, that was good. However, the best single track racing was left off the event.
I fell down twice, once on left forearm. No ankle issues.
First loop was 40:04. As usual, that means I should have raced the shorter distance. I would have scored a silver medal & more than 7 series points.
