Ran yesterday's Red course at Sweetwater. Orienteering-wise it was an almost perfect run. That's to be expected since I was course setter and have been to each control site at least three times in the last two weeks. But it was a nice day for a run and I wanted to see how well my running would go compared to the good runs several people had yesterday. Ran well the first three km but felt really tired at that point. Was much slower the second half of the course although the second half is where the three big hills are. Not as fast as I had hoped, but happy that I was faster than the best from yesterday. Granted they didn't have the advantage of knowing where the controls were beforehand, but they did have the advantage of being 20-30 years younger.

Note

Sweetwater Creek - GAOC O-meet. I was course setter and meet director. It was an absolutely beautiful day. A little chilly early on, but perfect for orienteering. We had a great turn-out, over 90 starts. Everything went off without a hitch. Lots of nice comments on the courses, lots of happy people at the finish. Just what a Meet Director loves to hear and see.

Note

Intended to bike with a RIverside Riders group, but as I was about to put the bike in the car I saw I had a flat tire. As I was already running a bit late, I scratched the biking idea. Flixed the flat later in the afternoon and did some needed cleaning of the wheels and bike.

Sweetwater Creek - hanging control bags for the meet this weekend. All walking. Jeremy joined me so he could get familiar with the whole putting on a meet process.

Beautiful day, greatly enjoyed the long walk.

Sosobee bicycling. It's been about six weeks since I've riden here. And I haven't done any long or hard rides that whole time either. So I was anxious to see how well I would do. Turns out, not well. I went with the A group, and they were in a hammering mood. I managed to hang on for the first 25 or so miles, but my legs felt tired and I felt spent. Another guy and I were dropped at that point so we rode together the next 15 miles to the gas station rest break. The others were still there so I guess we hadn't fallen too terribly far back, although they were out of sight. At that point seven others who didn't want to continue getting hammered broke off into a second group. I went with them (going with the fast group really wasn't an option as I suspect I would have been dropped in the first few miles - we had 15 miles to go). After about ten miles I got dropped again, the tank was pretty empty. Managed to keep the others in sight and got back to the park just fine. Felt like a long ride even though the weather was perfect. A little chilly at the start (~50) and probably only 70 or so at the finish.

Sweetwater. Ran the Green course (streamers only) with Sarah H. Stopped at every control to rehash her performance and discuss the next route. So it was all stop and go. Beautiful day in the woods. Sarah is getting better every time she runs. You could see the improvement just from the start to the end ot the Green course today.
