Orienteering race 1:41:42 [5]
US Classic Champs - Day 1 - Red - this was the longest stretch between A meets that I have ever had - with the US Champs in Moreau last fall being the last one. Fortunately I left the event feeling good about route choices and navigation (with a couple hiccups). I also left feeling motivated about my improving my physical conditioning as it was clear that was where I need the most work.
Biggest mistakes were at #4 (heading east on the ridge just north of the ridge I needed for a couple minute loss) and losing contact briefly with the map on the way to #5. The split for #5 was pretty awful, but I never felt like I was too far off the line. I think I lost about 7-8 minutes on that leg. I had a bit of trouble with the rootstocks on the map and was positive a crossed a section of wall that didn't make it on to the map on the way to #5, but overall not too many issues with the map.
Ran 2-4 with Angelica and 5-7 with Clint. Lost Angelica on the way to 5 (or should I say she lost me), but think I stayed in front of Clint after #7.
The map and terrain were great - too bad I am missing tomorrow.
